SAUK PRAIRIE — The Monroe golf team opened its 2023 season at the Sauk Prairie Invite on Tuesday, April 4.
The Cheesemakers finished 14 of 17 teams with a score of 415.
Senior Bert Leach led the team with his score of 89. He carded three pars on holes 6, 11 and 12. Overall, he finished tied for 31st with five other golfers.
Brady Spotts was second on the team with a score of 101. He shot par on holes five and 11. Aaron Benzschawel finished four strokes behind Spotts with a score of 105. He, too, shot two pars.
Brock Brandli and Lance Scace rounded out the top five with scores of 120 and 131, respectively.
Janesville Craig won the invite with a team score of 321, which was two under par. The top golfer was Charlie Erlandson of Madison Memorial, who shot a 67, which was three under par.
In girls soccer, Sugar River dropped its season-opening game to Sun Prairie West 3-1 on Monday, April 3.
Haley Thompson scored the Raiders’ only goal in the 79th minute. She was assisted by Hannah Boldebuck. In goal, Addison Lutz recorded four saves.
