VERONA — The Monroe-New Glarus Cheese Knights showed some of their best swimming of the season at the Division 1 Sectional at Verona on Saturday Nov. 8. The Cheese Knights placed 11th in the sectional with 83 points. Middleton won sectional with 417 points.
The day featured several swimmers coming up with lifetime and season-best performances. MNG senior Megan Chapman had a big day as she qualified for the state meet in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.41) and 500-yard freestyle (5:14.41) with season-best times in both events.
Chapman will represent the Cheese Knights at the 2025 WIAA Division 1 Fall Swimming and Diving Championship on Saturday at the Waukesha South Natatorium. She will compete in Heat 1 of the D1 200-yard freestyle, and will also go up against seven other swimmers in Heat 2 of the D1 500-yard freestyle.
At the sectional meet, sophomore Lauren Zentner had an impressive day as well, posting a lifetime best in the 50-yard freestyle (22.50) and achieving lifetime best relay splits across all of her events. Senior Piper Faber swam PR in the 100-yard butterfly and also posted a season best in the 50-yard freestyle (27.43). Junior Lauryn Arnett recorded a PR in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.89). Senior Lexie Elgin swam a PR in the 50-yard freestyle (28.78), and senior Brinlee Chapman PR’ed in the 500-yard freestyle (6:23.69). Junior Hadleigh Shunk swam a season best in the 50-yard freestyle (26.45). Anna Zentner achieved season best times in both the 50-yard freestyle (26.91) and 100-yard butterfly (1:01.81).
