BRODHEAD — In girls high school wrestling, the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals took a 36-12 win over the Parkview-Albany Vikings. Only two matches were wrestled. At 126 pounds, Serenity Pautsch of Parkview-Albany defeated Hayden Lewis of Brodhead-Juda by a pin at 5:50. At 136 pounds Olivia Brooks of Brodhead-Juda scored a pin in 2:31 over Ayda Klein of Parkview-Albany. Parkview-Albany received a forfeit at 132 pounds and Brodhead-Juda received a forfeit at five other weight classes. There was a double-forfeit at 285 pounds.
In boys wrestling, Parkview-Albany came back from an 18-0 deficit to win 30-24. Joshua Hasselmann of Brodhead-Juda got a pin in 1:52 at 120 pounds. Balin Lacy of Parkview-Albany at 150 pounds defeated Izaiah Moser of Brodhead-Juda with a pin in 3:36. At 165 pounds, Elijah Gunn of Parkview-Albany scored a pin in 47 seconds over Ethan Groebner of Brodhead-Juda. Rylan Aasen of Parkview-Albany pinned Rush West of Brodhead-Juda in 1:46 at 215 pounds to tie the match at 24-24. That’s when Jagger Wilke won the match for the Vikings at 285 pounds with a pin of Logan Berzinski in 1:04.
Parkview-Albany coach Joel Steinmann was elated with the come-from-behind win.
“I talked to the kids before we started. Don’t worry about the meet. Go out there and wrestle your match. Wrestle hard and compete and don’t worry about anything else but yourself and it’ll come to you. And, it did,” said Steinmann.
Parkview-Albany wrestled again on Thursday, Dec. 4 at the Janesville Quadrangular. Brodhead-Juda girls competed at the Stoughton Varsity Invitational on Friday, Dec. 5 while Brodhead-Juda boys competed in the Varsity Classic at Johnson Creek on Saturday, Dec. 6.
