BRODHEAD — The Cardinals sent one golfer to sectionals in 2021, and that one golfer, Onni Oliver, returns this spring for her senior season on the links. In Rock Valley competition in 2021, Brodhead finished fourth.

Joining Onni this spring will be sophomore Nolan Oliver and juniors Grant Purdue and Austin Moe.

“Returning 4 letter-winners on a team that finished 4th last year in the RVC, we are looking to move up this year and finish ahead of that,” said coach Eric Oliver.

One challenge a lot of high school teams face is simply fatigue on the course. Many competitions are nine-holes only, but there are others that are the full 18. Doubling the play in a single day can be tough for some to overcome — both mentally and physically.

“We will need to improve on finishing rounds and 18-hole events, making sure we continue to concentrate as we found out last season every stroke matters,” Eric Oliver said.

Edgerton, last year’s regional winner and state qualifier, is expected to lead the way in the conference race. The Crimson Tide graduated just one varsity golfer, while the four returning each shot an 87 or better at the Prairie du Chien Regional.

Just one Cardinal: Onni Oliver (86) met that mark for Brodhead. Purdue carded a 90 that day, while Nolan Oliver had a 98 and Moe a 119.
