BRODHEAD — The Cardinals kept their record unblemished with a 43-0 throttling of Platteville in Week 5 on Sept. 17.

Aiden Vondra opened the scoring with an 11-yard TD run in the first quarter, and minutes later Gage Boegli broke through for a 66-yard TD score. Brady Rosheisen made it 21-0 moments into the second quarter on a 4-yard score. Vondra added a 23-yard TD run and Boegli a 2-yarder before halftime, putting the Cardinals ahead 35-0 at the break.

Vondra added a 75-yard TD run moments into the second half. The Cardinals capped the scoring with a safety in the fourth quarter.

Vondra completed the game with 138 yards on the ground on just six carries. Boegli had 98 yards on five rushes, while Brady Rosheisen ended the evening with 90 yards on 11 carries. QB Cole Hoesly was 3 of 4 passing for 68 yards.

Platteville had negative-6 yards on 22 carries against the Cardinals defense, and ended the game with 70 passing yards and an interception. Brodhead-Juda gained 15 first downs to Platteville’s five. The Cardinals added 392 rushing yards on 41 carries. Brodhead-Juda outgained Platteville in total yardage 460-64.

Brodhead-Juda (5-0, 3-0 SWC), No. 9 in the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Division 5 rankings, travels to River Valley (4-1, 3-0) in Week 6. A win for the Cardinals would clinch a postseason berth, and put Brodhead-Juda in the driver’s seat for the SWC title.

River Valley lost its season-opener to D4’s fourth-ranked Madison Edgewood, but has strung together four straight emphatic wins over Lancaster, Platteville, Montello-Princeton-Green Lake and Dodgeville.

Blackhawks QB Ethan Wickman has been efficient under center this year, passing for 564 yards and eight TDs through his first four games. His top target is deep threat Landen Alt, who gained 308 yards and four TDs on his first nine catches of the year. RV has three running backs with more than 100 yards rushing on the season in a balanced attack.

The Blackhawks have allowed just 400 yards rushing this season through five games, though that team strength will be put to the test against the Cardinals, which have averaged 303.8 yards per game rushing. Boegli alone has gained more than 600 yards and 12 TDs thus far this season.

River Valley’s other key is jumping out early in the game. The Blackhawks have outscored opponents 42-7 in the first quarter this year. Brodhead-Juda, meanwhile, has outscored opponents 81-7 in the first quarter and 76-3 in the second — a total of 157-10 in the first half of five games this season (31-2 average).

Wisconsin Dells 48, New Glarus-Monticello 14

NEW GLARUS — The Glarner Knights fell behind 27-7 by halftime and trailed 41-7 after the third quarter of their Week 5 loss against Wisconsin Dells Sept. 17.

Max Marty was 9 of 22 passing for 108 yards, two touchdowns and five interceptions for New Glarus. The Knights gained just 63 yards on the ground collectively. Leyton Mihlbauer and Nate Brandes each had three catches for more than 40 yards and a touchdown.

Degan Jensen had a 24-yard TD catch and two INTs for Wisconsin Dells (5-0). Teammate Braden Buss also had a pair of interceptions on defense, added 17 rushing yards with a score on offense, and as the Dells QB went 13 of 18 for 186 yards and two touchdowns. The Dells had 184 yards on the ground and 370 yards of offense, compared to NGM’s 171.

The Knights (1-4, 1-2 SWC) travel to Richland Center (3-2, 2-1) in Week 6.

The Hornets have less than 350 passing yards on the season, instead doing most of their work on the ground. Bryce Hillers leads RC with 576 yards rushing (115.2 ypg), with QB Konner Ellenson second at 243 total yards (48.6 ypg).

Richland Center lost a tight game to the Dells to open the season, then knocked off Fennimore and Dodgeville before losing by 37 to Brodhead-Juda in Week 4. In Week 5, the Hornets edged Prairie du Chien 13-7, which NGM defeated by a point in Week 4.

Fennimore 56, Parkview-Albany 22

FENNIMORE — The Vikings fell behind 41-14 in the first half and never recovered in the second half of their Week 5 game against the Eagles.

Max Kenney was 5 of 7 passing for 182 yards and three TDs for Fennimore. Maximos Miles had 95 yards rushing and two scores on eight carries. Kaden Hahn finished with 70 yards and a score on three carries for Fennimore.

After Fennimore (2-3, 1-2 SWAL) took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, Parkview-Albany (0-5, 0-3) responded with Gauge Pomplun catching an 11-yard TD pass from Zander Brown. Just 17 seconds later, Hahn darted 56 yards for a score to make it 14-6. Trailing 21-6 in the second, the Vikings scored on a 2-yard run with 5:02 left before halftime to get back to within seven at 21-14.

Fennimore then scored three TDs in quick succession to completely take over the game. Miles scored on a 67-yard run just 18 seconds after P/A’s second TD, then Austin Horn caught a 42-yard TD pass with 3:06 left. Kenney and Horn connected for a 45-yard score with just five seconds left before halftime.

The pair added a third TD connection to open the third quarter, this time from 75 yards out. Dawson Cole added another Fennimore score on a 20-yard run late in the third quarter with the running clock in effect. Karson Redman caught a 9-yard pass with 8:38 left in the fourth, with Sam Schwengels rumbling in on the two-point conversion.

Up next for P/A is Belleville (4-1, 2-1). The Wildcats have a potent offense that follows the lead of versatile QB Trevor Syse, who has 789 yards and 10 TDs in five games this season. He also has 181 yards rushing and has the ability to escape pressure in the backfield. Anthony Nolden is Syse’s top target, hauling in 15 catches for 397 yards and five TDs. Carson Syse has 12 grabs for 155 yards and a score, while Demarcus Conner has 11 receptions for 115 yards. Dylan Posthuma is the team’s leading rusher, with 363 yards this season (72.6 ypg).
