Cap City eliminates Rock County Fury

JANESVILLE — Cap City proved just how hard it is to beat a team three times in one season, as the Cougars upset the Fury in overtime, 2-1, in a WIAA girls hockey sectional semifinal on Tuesday, Feb. 20. Rock County had previously defeated Cap City 2-1 twice this season.

Emma Kligora scored in the first period with an assist from Macy Murphy. Caroline Cutrano tied the game in the second, assted by Teegan Davis. Neither team scored in the third, sending the game into overtime. Just 59 seconds in, Brynn Brinkmeier gave the Cougars the win.

Rock County outshot Cap City 30-21. Jillian Traver made 19 saves, still suffering the loss.

Emma Kligora, Jillian Traver and Anna Cole are finalists for Wisconsin Prep Hockey Awards, which will be presented March 1.

Kligora is a finalist for the Jinelle Siergiej top forward award. This season, Kligora scored 37 goals with 20 assists for 57 points. She leads Wisconsin for goals scored and is third for points.

Traver is a finalist for the Jessie Vetter top goalie award. Traver posted a 16-9 record with a .932 save percentage and a 2.08 GAA. She is second in the state for wins.

Cole is a finalist for the Rachel Kenyon Unsung Hero award. Fury head coach Luke Steurer nominated Cole for her hard work and impact.

“Anna is a player you want on your team, as she will always give you everything she can all season long,” Steurer said. “Her impact for our team goes well beyond points and she is truly a huge asset for us.”
