ORFORDVILLE — The Cambria-Friesland Hilltoppers took a 20-point halftime lead, then scored 20 unanswered points in the third quarter to cruise over the Parkview-Albany Vikings 48-14 in Trailways Conference football on Sept. 26.

Dayton McBride gave the Hilltoppers a 7-0 lead on Cambria-Friesland’s first possession with a nine yard touchdown run and extra point with 5:27 left in the first quarter. Later in the quarter, McBride threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Gerrit Sjoerdsma. The extra point was blocked and C-F had a 13-0 lead after one quarter. In the second quarter, the Vikings turned the ball over on downs at their own 45-yard line. The Hilltoppers went 55 yards in 10 plays with McBride scoring from a yard out and adding on the extra point to give C-F a 20-0 lead with 5:54 before halftime. The Vikings scored on their next drive, aided by a face mask penalty. Corbin Williams had a 26-yard reception that set up Oliver Friederich’s 10-yard touchdown catch from Aiden Crane. Elijah Gunn ran it in for a two-point extra point and got the Vikings to within 20-8. But, C-F scored with 1:24 left in the half on another McBride touchdown, this time from eight yards out plus McBride’s two-point conversion to lead 28-8 at halftime.

Cambria-Friesland scored touchdowns on all three of their possessions in the third quarter. Hoyt Helmer scored on runs of 19 yards and 24 yards, sandwiched by a two yard run by McBride to give the Hilltoppers a 48-8 lead and start the running clock. The Vikings got a late touchdown on a 12-yard pass by Aiden Crane to Kamron Parker to make the final score 48-14.

Parkview-Albany coach Damian Dressler said the Vikings simply couldn’t stop the Hilltoppers success in running the football between the tackles.

“We had a game plan to stop it. We didn’t execute that game plan like we wanted to. We were missing some key players today due to concussions or other injuries. That didn’t allow us to sub in some people and get some of these guys some rest playing two ways. That’s not an excuse because a lot of their guys are playing two ways. We need to step up,” said Dressler.

Parkview-Albany (2-4, 1-3) will host Randolph in Trailways Conference action on Oct. 3 at Orfordville.
