Butler records rare quadruple-double

Black Hawk’s Bailey Butler puts up a shot in the lane in an 81-39 win over Argyle Jan. 2 in South Wayne.

SOUTH WAYNE — When top-ranked Black Hawk knocked off No. 5 Albany 72-52 Jan. 4, no one could have predicted the stat line of Warriors senior Bailey Butler.

●  23 points

●  16 rebounds

●  15 assists

●  10 steals

The ultra-rare quadruple double.

Butler, a UW-Green Bay commit, was 7-for-15 from the field, including 1-for-4 from beyond the arc. She also hit 8 of 11 free throws. Her 16 boards were nearly half of her team’s total, and she had nearly 2/3 of Black Hawk’s steals and assists.

The only stat that likely mattered to her was the 72-52 mark on the scoreboard — the 60th-straight for the Warriors and the first loss of the season for the visiting Comets.

Black Hawk (6-0, 3-0 Six Rivers East) led 36-23 after the first half, and held on in the second half, outscoring Albany (8-1, 4-1) 36-29 over the final 18 minutes.

Kaylee Marty finished with 19 points for Black Hawk, and Makayla Mau had 11 points. The Warriors finished the night 29 of 53 (54.7%) from the field.

Monticello 59, Juda 29

JUDA — The Ponies had three players in double figures as they sprinted past the Panthers in a Six Rivers East game Jan. 4.

Mackie Errthum had a double-double for Monticello with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Ellie Gustafson had 15 points and 6 boards, and Harley Disch added 14 points and 4 assists for the Ponies. Anna Skoumal led Juda with 9 points.

Monticello led 35-13 at halftime and outscored Juda 24-16 in the second half.

Argyle 57, Barneveld 47

BARNEVELD — Grace Ganshert and Tori Lantz each had a double-double for the Orioles, while teammate Maggie Godfrey finished a rebound shy in a come-from-behind Six Rivers East Conference win Jan. 4.

Lantz had 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Ganshert finished with 10 points and 12 boards. Godfrey had a team-high 16 points to go with 9 rebounds and a team-leading 5 assists and 5 steals. Jenna Allison added 8 points for the Orioles.

Argyle trailed 22-21 at halftime, but turned up the heat in the second half. While sloppy on offense (24 turnovers), the Orioles finished with 17 steals and 3 blocks on defense, and finished with 48 team rebounds.

The next night, Argyle defeated Darlington 42-37 in a nonconference game.

Benton 43, Pecatonica 34

BENTON — The Zephyrs ended its 31-game losing streak with a Six Rivers Conference crossover win Jan. 4.

Chloe Schraepfer led Pecatonica with 17 points, while Lexi Peterson had 8 and Tessa Green 7.

Taylor Mowry hit four 3-pointers for Benton, leading the team with 16 points. Zoe Stluka added 12.

The Zephyrs led 23-17 at halftime.

New Glarus 60, Belmont 42

BELMONT — In a post-game statements, the officials commended both the Glarner Knights and the Braves for their positive, sportsmanship performances.

“Last night I had the opportunity to officiate a varsity girls basketball game in Belmont WO,” referee Brandon Klein shared on Facebook. “Even though it probably wasn’t the outcome Belmont wanted BOTH New Glarus and Belmont showed GREAT sportsmanship and attitude throughout the game. I can say for certain this is the first time in 12 years in officiating that I’ve publicly acknowledge BOTH teams.”

Klein wrote that the team’s attitudes towards the officials and their opponents were direct reflections on their coaches and thanked the players, coaches and parents in attendance.

“[P]arents, this is on you too so keep up the good work. Hopefully there were younger kids in the gym last night watching their big sister exemplify what high school sports is SUPPOSED to look like!”

Coaching staffs and school reps from both teams welcomed Klein’s praise.

“So much #knightpride Well done NG Girls Basketball! You make me so proud!” New Glarus Athletic Director Brittany Spencer Grant said on Twitter.

New Glarus pulled out to a 20-point lead at halftime, but the second half was back and forth.

Jaylynn Benson led all scorers with 18 points for New Glarus. Knights freshman Lindsey Schadewalt added 16.

Chloe Crapp led Belmont with 8 points.
