Brown becomes Juda’s all-time leading boys scorer, just 96 away from school record

JUDA — Senior Jayden Brown scored 36 points to become the all-time leading scorer for Juda boys basketball and help the Panthers down the Black Hawk Warriors 52-44 on Thursday, Feb. 5. 

Brown surpassed Chad Kesler’s record of 1,235 points and now, after another game the next night against Potosi-Cassville, has 1,259 points, which puts him 96 points behind all-time points leader Ellen Kiser, who had 1,355 points.

Brown was a perfect 12-12 on free throws and grabbed eight rebounds. Senior Braydon Steinmann had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers.  

Junior Brody Argall and sophomore Grant Quinn each had 11 points for the Warriors. Junior Cole Dunlavey scored 10 points for Black Hawk.

Juda (8-10, 4-9) played at home in a Six Rivers Conference crossover game against Potosi-Cassville on Friday, Feb. 6. Black Hawk (5-12, 4-9) hosted fifth-ranked Belmont in a Six Rivers Conference crossover game on Friday, Feb. 6, losing 69-25.


Potosi-Cassville 68, Juda 55

JUDA — The Juda Panthers lost to Potosi-Cassville Friday, Feb. 6, 68-55 in a Six Rivers crossover game. 

Potosi-Cassville led 34-21 at halftime, but the Panthers just couldn’t get a rally going in the second half. They pulled to within 59-49 with 5:32 remaining in the game, but could draw no closer.

Steinmann led the Panthers with 21 points. He sat out most of the first half after he was injured on a hard foul four minutes into the game. Steinmann came back in the second half and scored 17 points. Senior Teston Gobeli added 12 points and Brown scored 11 points to pace the Panthers.

Juda (8-11, 5-10) had back-to-back nights of basketball on their schedule with a home game on Monday, Feb. 9 against Argyle and a home game on Tuesday, Feb. 10 against Brodhead.


New Glarus 75, Wis. Heights 30

MAZOMANIE — The New Glarus Glarner Knights went on the road and picked up a 75-30 win over the Wisconsin Heights Vanguards in a Capitol South game on Friday, Feb. 6.

Junior Nolan Julseth was the leading scorer for the Knights with 18 points. Seniors Matt Roth and Tatem Stampfli each got 11 points to round out the Glarner Knights’ attack. Sophomore Tyse Hoesly grabbed eight of the Knights’ 42 rebounds as New Glarus won its third game in a row.  

New Glarus (12-5, 5-0) played Lodi in a Capitol Conference crossover game scheduled on Monday, Feb. 9. They will travel to Waterloo on Thursday, Feb. 12 for a Capitol South game.


Marshall 90, Belleville 70

MARSHALL — Senior Jackson Scholey erupted for 43 points but it was the Marshall Cardinals who had the hot hand throughout the game as Marshall beat the Belleville Wildcats 90-70 in a Capitol South Conference game on Friday, Feb. 6.

Scholey has averaged 35.6 points per game over his last three games. Senior Hazeon Edmond scored 13 points and senior Isaac Patrow pulled down 12 rebounds but Marshall shot 56% from the floor and 50% on three-pointers to pull away from a 58-45 lead midway through the second half. Marshall also scored 94 points on the Wildcats in a game on January 9.

Belleville (5-13, 2-4 Capitol South) had a nonconference game scheduled against Fennimore on Monday, Feb. 9. They’ll face Wisconsin Heights in a Capitol South game at home on Thursday, Feb. 12.


Brodhead 75, Delavan-Darien 69

DELAVAN — The Brodhead Cardinals broke away from a 27-27 tie game at halftime and exploded for 48 points in the second half to defeat the Delavan-Darien Comets 75-69 in a Rock Valley Conference crossover game on Friday, Feb. 6.

Senior Nolan Bump and senior Sam Searls provided a 1-2 punch for the Cardinals with 20 points and 18 points, respectively. Junior Braylon Strehlow scored 16 points and junior Landen Malcook added 15 points to pave the way for the Cardinals.

Brodhead (3-15, 1-9 RVC-Rock) had a nonconference game scheduled against Juda on Tuesday, Feb. 10 before hosting Edgerton in an RVC-Rock Conference game on Thursday, Feb. 12.
