MONROE — Senior Alecia Dahl hit five three-pointers on her way to scoring 21 points, leading the Brodhead Cardinals to a 73-33 win over the Monroe Cheesemakers in a Rock Valley Conference crossover game on Friday, Jan 16.
Freshman Ella Olson had 12 points and junior Chesney Walker scored 10 points to help get the win for the Cardinals (12-2, 8-2 RVC-Rock).
Sophomore Brynlee Scace scored up 12 points and junior Braylee Fridrich added nine points, eight rebounds and three blocks for Monroe (5-8, 1-6 RVC-Valley).
Brodhead was scheduled for a nonconference game at home against Black Hawk on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
Eastland (Ill.) 54, Monroe 8
SAVANNA, ILL. — Nothing went right for the Monroe Cheesemakers as they were overwhelmed by the Eastland Cougars 54-9 on Saturday, Jan. 17 in the West Carroll Tournament.
It was the third straight loss for the Cheesemakers in which they’ve averaged only 20.6 points per game.
Monroe (5-9) had a nonconference game scheduled at Wisconsin Heights on Monday, Jan. 19.
Belmont 59, Black Hawk 37
BELMONT — The Warriors lost their star scorer, and then the game on January 15 at Belmont.
Maddy Place, scoring 30 points for the visiting Warriors, suffered a lower-body injury late in the game. She was unavailable the next night against Benton.
Belmont’s Lexi Riechers scored 202 points, and teammates Zoe Wedig (11) and Carsyn Ramaker (10) also scored in double-digits.
Place and the Warriors stayed in contention into halftime, trailing by eight points at 34-26. However, the Braves outscored Black Hawk the rest of the way, 25-11.
Benton 49, Black Hawk 28
SOUTH WAYNE — Only two players scored for the Black Hawk Warriors as the Benton Zephyrs blew past the Black Hawk Warriors 49-28 on Friday Jan. 16 in a Six Rivers conference crossover game.
Senior Mya Milz scored 23 points to lead all scorers and senior Emily Figi had five points to account for all of the scoring for the Warriors. Senior Keira Brunner led the Warriors in rebounding with nine boards. The Zephyrs were led in scoring by junior Paisley Williams with 14 points.
Black Hawk (4-8, 1-7) was slated to play at home in a nonconference game against Kickapoo on Monday, Jan. 19.

Albany-Monticello 70, Highland 31
MONTICELLO — Sophomore Heidi Olson drained five three-pointers and scored 21 points while senior Molly Olson added 20 points as Albany-Monticello ripped the Highland Cardinals 70-31 in a Six Rivers Conference crossover game on Friday, Jan. 16.
For the Space Stallions, it was their 10th straight win.
Albany-Monticello 61, Wauzeka-Steuben 40
WAUZEKA — Junior Reegan Schmidt led all scorers with 24 points as the Albany-Monticello Space Stallions rolled past the Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets 61-40 in nonconference girls basketball on Saturday, Jan. 17.
Sophomore Raegan Hollis pumped in 16 points and senior Molly Olson contributed 11 points as AM won its 11th straight game to improve to 14-1.
Albany Monticello (6-1 Six Rivers East) had a conference game scheduled at Juda against the Panthers (0-7 Six Rivers East) on Monday, Jan. 19 before a big showdown at Argyle-Pecatonica on Thursday, Jan. 22.
Argyle-Pecatonica 70, River Ridge 13
PATCH GROVE — The second-ranked AP girls basketball team took care of business on the road Jan. 26, cleaning the clock of the host Timberwolves 70-13 in a Six Rivers crossover.
Brooke Wellnitz led the way with 27 points, including a 13-for-15 effort from the field. She added 12 rebounds, a block, seven steals and seven assists. Kylie Butler had 20 points, four rebounds, seven assists and six steals, while Avari Steiner tallied 15 points and two assists, and Aleah Harris grabbed six boards.
With the Six Rivers East title in the balance, AP (13-1, 7-0), enters the week with games against last season’s state runner-up Barneveld (8-6, 5-2) on Jan. 19 and second place Albany-Monticello (14-1, 6-1) on Jan. 22. AP defeated AM at the beginning of this season 42-38. This will be the first of two contests against Barneveld.
