Brodhead, Darlington run away with Ws

BRODHEAD — In the first half of a Jan. 18 blowout win over Jefferson, Brodhead scored as many points as their opponents finished with in the game.

After the first 18 minutes of action, the Cardinals led 43-28. In the second half, Brodhead’s defense locked down even more while the offense rolled, outscoring Jefferson 41-15 over the final 18 minutes.

Owen Leifker scored 28 points to lead all scorers, hitting two 3-pointers, dishing out eight assists, stealing four balls and grabbing seven boards. 

Brady Malkow followed his teammate with a double-double — 20 points and 11 rebounds. He also had five steals. Josiah Engen (15) and Aidyn Vondra (10) also reached double figures in points for the Cardinals (11-3, 8-0 Rock Valley Conference).

Up next for Brodhead is one of the biggest games of the year — a Jan. 21 matchup against McFarland, currently in second place, two games behind Brodhead in the league standings. After that, Beloit Turner (Jan. 27) and East Troy (Feb. 1), the two teams tied for third in the RVC, are set to face the Cardinals.


Dodgeville 79, Monticello 51

MONTICELLO — The Ponies lost a nonconference game Jan. 18, falling behind by 21 at halftime.

Jackson Eyler led Monticello in scoring with 15 points, while Ryer Indergand scored 12 and Brayden Ryan added nine.

Dodgeville had four players in double figures, led by  Dillon Garthwaite (23) and Noah Pittz (19).

Other area scores from Jan. 18 include Pecatonica over Juda 61-16, Black Hawk over Barneveld 48-44, Darlington over Fennimore 72-59 and New Glarus over Waterloo, 73-54.
