MONROE — The Six Rivers Conference recently released its all-conference selections for the Eastern Division in softball. Runners-up Juda-Albany had four first-team selections, including Pitcher of the Year Avary Briggs.
In the circle, Avary Briggs posted a 13-6 record with a 1.76 ERA. In 115 2/3 innings pitched, she struck out 128 batters and walked just 26. She was also dominant at the plate, going 42-for-92 in the leadoff spot for a .457 batting average. Avary Briggs also roped nine doubles and one triple. She scored 23 runs and stole 14 bases.
Younger sister Emerson Briggs garnered first-team all-conference recognition. She was the second most-used pitcher, recording 41 1/3 innings and a 2-2 record. At the plate, Emerson Briggs was 27-for-81 for a .333 batting average — one of five Panthers to hit over .300. She drove in 16 runs, drew 10 walks and stole six bases.
Teammate Alana Durtschi also earned first-team all-conference. At the plate, Durtschi led JuBany in several categories, including runs scored (30), triples (2), RBIs (32), walks (13), stolen bases (16) and batting average (.488). She also had three decisions in the circle, going 1-2 with a 2.63 ERA.
Myah Johnson, who will continue her softball career at Loras, nabbed a spot on the first team. She was 34-for-90 at the plate for a .378 batting average. Johnson smoked seven doubles, one triple and the team’s only home run. She also drove in 30 runs.
Anna Ellinger earned honorable all-conference and Allison Rhyner made the sportsmanship team.
Juda-Albany finished second in the league (5-3) behind champions Barneveld (8-0). The Panthers earned a regional title by defeating Six Rivers West rival Belmont 2-1. They then fell to Barneveld in a sectional semifinal 9-3.
The remaining local Six Rivers East teams had two selections each to the first team.
Dalana Trumpy and Karlee Wilkins represented Monticello-New Glarus. Trumpy led the Ponies in nearly every offensive category, including at bats (63), runs scored (23), hits (24), doubles (4), triples (2) and stolen bases (32). In fact, her stolen bases mark — while not being thrown out — ranks sixth in the state. Trumpy was one of two players for MNG to hit over .300.
Wilkins went 17-for-62 for a .274 batting average. She provided a bit of pop, tallying the team’s only home run and driving in 10 runs.
Melanie Fink earned honorable mention, while Molly Olson made honorable mention and the sportsmanship team.
MNG finished third in conference with a 3-5 record. The Ponies suffered a 6-5 comeback loss to Columbus in the first round of playoffs.
Brooklyn Johnsrud and Alyssa Cassidy represented Pecatonica. The sophomore catcher led the Vikings in multiple offensive categories, including hits (20), doubles (4), home runs (2), RBIs (12), hit by pitches (5) and batting average (.308). She also scored 12 runs, drew seven walks and stole 12 bases.
Cassidy went 15-for-70 with two doubles for a .214 batting average. She drove in 11 runs and stole 10 bases.
Bri Peterson, Diana Hendrickson and Maddie Hirsch earned honorable mention, while Sophia Schraepfer was named to the sportsmanship team.
Pecatonica finished 2-6 in conference, tied with Argyle-Black Hawk. The Vikings won their opening playoff game against Southwestern 5-1 before running into top-seeded Belmont.
Maddy Lange and Kylie Butler earned first-team all-conference for Argyle-Black Hawk. Lange led the Orioles in multiple categories, including hits (24), home runs (3), RBIs (14), walks (9) and batting average (.407). She also scored 15 runs and stole 11 bases.
Butler finished 13-for-51 at the plate for a .255 batting average. She hit two doubles and a team-best four triples. She also drew seven walks and scored 13 runs.
Sam Kammes earned honorable mention, while Alexis Rosenstiel made honorable mention and the sportsmanship team.
ABH finished conference with a 2-6 record, tied with Pecatonica. The Orioles defeated Belleville 9-1 in playoffs before running into Division 4 state runners-up Cuba City.
Barneveld, which won conference, had five first-team all-conference selections, including Player of the Year Eliza Gordon. Jason Gordon was also named the Coach of the Year.
