Breaking: WIAA football brackets released
WIAA

The WIAA released the football playoff brackets on Oct. 14.

Monroe (Division 3) and Darlington (D6) each earned the top seeds in their sectionals, respectively.

Black Hawk-Warren is a 3-seed in D7 and will host a game. New Glarus-Monticello and Brodhead-Juda each made the field in Division 5, though both will be on the road.

Breakdowns below:

All WIAA Level 1 games at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, 2023

Division 3

1-seed Monroe (8-1) vs. 8 New Berlin Eisenhower (4-6)

Monroe, the reigning WIAA Division 3 state champions, won the Rock Valley Conference for the third straight season, and could host three playoff games this fall. NBE finished fifth out of eight teams in the Parkland. NBE has made the postseason every year since 2025.

If the Cheesemakers advance, they will play either 5-seed McFarland (6-4) or 4-seed Milwaukee Washington-Fuller Collegiate (5-2) in Level 2. Monroe blasted McFarland 59-7 in the Rock Valley opener in Week 3. MWFC finished tied atop the Milwaukee City-Blackbourn Conference.

A Level 3 potential matchup could include Pewaukee (5-4), which has given Monroe its two toughest postseason battles in back-to-back years. Waterford (6-3), Greendale (6-3) or former Badger Conference rival Stoughton (4-5) are other potential matchups for Level 3 at T.R. Holyoke Field.

D3's top-ranked Port Washington (9-0) and 9th-ranked Plymouth (8-1) are the 1- and 2-seeds in the top half of the sectional bracket that Monroe could potentially face in the Level 4 state semifinal on neutral turf. The two teams also finished 1-2 in the East Central Conference.

Division 5

8-seed New Glarus-Monticello (5-5) at 1-seed Aquinas (8-1)

This is the last year of the 4-decades long co-op with New Glarus and Monticello.

Aquinas is the defending WIAA Division 5 state champion and is ranked No. 1 in the state.

The winner will play either 5-seed Watertown Luther Prep (7-2) or 4-seed Westby (8-1).

6-seed Brodhead-Juda (6-3) at 3-seed Columbus (8-1)

Second-ranked Columbus is the defending WIAA Division 4 state champion and just defeated New Glarus-Monticello in Week 9, 38-6. Columbus dropped a division this year, and finished second in the Capital Conference behind Division 4 second-ranked Lodi, which finished the regular season unbeaten.

If Brodhead-Juda can pull off the upset in the battle of the Cardinals, Brodhead-Juda would face either 7th-seeded Clinton (5-4) or 2nd-seeded Prairie du Chien (7-2). In Week 8, PDC defeated Brodhead-Juda 21-0.

Division 6

1-seed Darlington (8-1) vs. 8-seed Belleville (3-6)

No. 5-ranked Darlington went unbeaten in the SWAL, and blew out Belleville in Week 8, 58-0

The winner will play either 5th-seed Mineral Point (6-3) or 4th-seeded Racine Lutheran (7-2). Darlington defeated MP 20-13 in Week 6.

Division 7

6-seed Wauzeka-Seneca (5-4) at 3-seed  Black Hawk-Warren (8-1)

Black Hawk-Warren, ranked No. 7 in the state, finished tied as Six Rivers Conference Champions with Potosi-Cassville (ranked No. 6).

Wauzeka-Seneca finished second in the Ridge & Valley behind Highland.

If Black Hawk-Warren advances to Level 2, the Warriors would play either 7-seed Ithaca (4-5) or 2-seed Johnson Creek (8-1, ranked 8th).
