Monroe rebounds from Edgewood shellacking with nonconference win

JANESVILLE — Micki Andrews of Monroe assisted Macy Murphy on the game-winning goal in the second overtime as the Janesville Bluebirds won 3-2 over the Madison Metro Lynx in Badger Conference girls hockey on Thursday Jan. 29.

Andrews now has five assists along with four goals in her freshman season with the Bluebirds, totaling nine points.

The Metro Lynx took a 1-0 lead with a first period goal, but the Bluebirds grabbed a 2-1 lead with a pair of goals in the second period. With just under five minutes remaining in regulation, the Metro Lynx scored a goal to tie it 2-2 and send the game into overtime.

The teams played eight minutes of overtime and remaining deadlocked at 2-2, sending the game into a second overtime. With just nine seconds remaining in the overtime, Macy Murphy took a pass from Micki Andrews and blasted the game-winner. Hailey Rasmussen of Monroe got into the game for a short stint for the Bluebirds.

Janesville is undefeated in their last five games with four wins and a tie. The Bluebirds (7-10-2, 5-4) had a Badger Conference game scheduled on Tuesday Feb. 3 against the Stoughton Icebergs

Monroe 3, Janesville 1

MONROE — After taking a 10-0 beating from Edgewood on Jan. 27, the Monroe Cheesemakers bounced right back with a 3-1 win over the Janesville Bluebirds in nonconference boys hockey on Thursday, Jan. 29. 

Monroe got its third win in their last four games by getting goals from sophomore Blake Folgate, senior Hans Brandt, and senior Brody Keehn. Senior Brock Brandli made 46 saves to get the win for the Cheesemakers.

Monroe (7-12, 5-6 Badger Conference) had a Badger Conference game scheduled on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at home against the Stoughton Vikings.
