BOSCOBEL — The Darlington Redbirds got their third straight win by rolling past the Boscobel Bulldogs 57-31 in SWAL action on Friday, Feb. 13.
Senior Sadie Goebel led the Redbirds 16 points and six rebounds. Senior Maddie Gratz chalked up a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. As a team, the Redbirds passed the ball well, racking up 13 assists.
Darlington (16-6, 10-3 SWAL) played a big nonconference game on Monday Feb. 16 at Barneveld (15-7, 10-3 Six Rivers East). They finish the regular season Thursday, Feb. 19 at home against the Riverdale Chieftains in a SWAL conference game.
Brodhead 56, Evansville 43
BRODHEAD — Senior Allie Dahl scored 22 points and was 9-10 from the free throw line as the Brodhead Cardinals captured a 56-43 win over the Evansville Blue Devils in a Rock Valley conference, Rock Division game on Friday, Feb. 13.
The Cardinals got a 29-21 advantage at halftime and made 20 of 26 free throws to keep the Blue Devils from making a run. Junior Chesney Walker came up with 10 points for the Cardinals.
Senior Brooklyn Maves had 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead Evansville.
Brodhead (17-5, 10-3) has two games remaining in the regular season. They were scheduled to play at home against Turner on Monday, Feb. 16 and on the road at Clinton on Thursday, Feb. 19 in RVC-Rock action.
Argyle-Pecatonica 66, Belmont 50
ARGYLE — Junior Brooke Wellnitz had a double-double and senior Kylie Butler was one assist away from a double-double as Argyle-Pecatonica claimed a 66-50 win over the Belmont Braves in a Six Rivers Conference crossover game on Friday, Feb. 13. The 78ers were able to bounce back from a 52-44 loss to Deerfield on Tuesday Feb. 10.
Wellnitz had 22 points and 11 rebounds and Butler scored 14 point and gathered nine rebounds. Junior Avari Steiner got 17 points, including four threes in the win for AP.
In the latest Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski girls basketball poll, Argyle-Pecatonica is ranked No. 2 in Division 5. AP took a 37-23 halftime lead and out-rebounded the Braves 58-41 on their way to the win
Belmont was led by freshman Zoe Wedig and junior Carsyn Ramaker with 11 points each.
Argyle-Pecatonica (18-3, 12-1) had a nonconference game scheduled at Lancaster (21-1) on Tuesday, Feb. 17 and will close the regular season at Barneveld (15-7, 10-3) on Thursday, Feb. 19.
Juda 67, Benton 47
JUDA — Senior Rianna Sullivan scored 18 points and grabbed a season-high 17 rebounds to power the Juda Panthers to a 67-47 win over the Benton Zephyrs in a Six Rivers Conference crossover game on Friday, Feb. 13.
The Panthers also got 16 points from junior Phoenix Homan and 10 points from sophomore Makenna Scheidegger as the Panthers scored 32 points in the paint. Juda also benefitted from 30 turnovers made by the Zephyrs and scored 19 points of those turnovers.
Juda (5-17, 1-12 Six Rivers East) had a nonconference game on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at home against Faith Christian and will finish the regular season on Thursday, Feb. 19 at Albany to take on Albany-Monticello in a Six Rivers East Conference game.
New Glarus 59, Marshall 26
NEW GLARUS — Junior Marie Basley had her best game for the New Glarus Glarner Knights as she scored 14 points to lead New Glarus to a 59-26 win over the Marshall Cardinals in a Capitol South Conference game on Friday, Feb. 13.
Freshman Ellie Parman was a key contributor with 11 points and six rebounds. Junior Kalia Malaise had 10 points to go along with three assists.
The Glarner Knights (12-11, 6-1) have a half-game lead over Belleville for first place in the Capitol South with one conference game left to play. They are scheduled to take on Cambridge (16-6, 5-2) on Thursday, Feb. 19. A win by the Glarner Knights would give New Glarus the Capitol South Conference title.
Potosi-Cassville 60, Black Hawk 43
SOUTH WAYNE — Senior Mya Milz put on a show for the home fans as she went off for 35 points, but the Black Hawk Warriors were defeated by Potosi-Cassville 60-43 in a Six Rivers Conference crossover game on Friday, Feb. 13.
Senior Kiera Brunner took in 10 rebounds and Milz had eight rebounds for the Warriors.
Black Hawk finished the regular season 5-16 overall and 2-12 in the Six Rivers East. The Warriors are a No. 14 seed and will open the Division 5 playoffs with a regional quarterfinal game at No. 3 seed Barneveld (15-7) on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
Girls Playoff Brackets Released
The WIAA released the playoff brackets for this year’s postseason, which begins on Tuesday, February 24.
Three area teams received first round byes, all in Division 4. No,. 2 seed Albany will host the winner of 7-seed Madison Abundant Life/St. Ambrose and 10-seed Marshall on Friday, February 27. On the same night, 4-seed Brodhead will host 5-seed Darlington, with the winner advancing to take on either Deerfield (1), Belleville (8) or Clinton (9).
