BH wins 5-set thriller over Barneveld
Monroe falls to BH; Argyle sweeps Albany; Pec wins twice; Brodhead finishes 2nd in RVC

MONROE — The Cheesemakers lost Oct. 7, getting swept by Mount Horeb 25-15, 25-16, 25-16.

Serve receive continued to be a troubled spot for Monroe, which allowed the Vikings to score 11 points on aces. 

Taylor Broge and Lydia Butler each had four kills for Monroe. Broge and Ariel Gruenberg each had seven digs, while Butler led the team with nine. Katie Witt, Olivia Wiegel and Gruenberg all scored aces.


Argyle 3, Albany 0

ARGYLE — The Orioles did just enough to score wins in the first two stanzas against the Comets Oct. 7, then found their groove in the third set, winning via sweep 25-20, 25-20, 25-12.

“The last game we were more in control and took advantage of some of that momentum,” said Connie Wunschel, Argyle head coach.

Megan Johnson had 22 assists, four aces and three blocks for Argyle. Breann Flannery added four aces. Maggie Godfrey tallied 16 digs and 10 kills, and Grace Ganshert chipped in with 11 digs and eight kills. 

For Albany, Brianna Dahl finished the night with nine kills, 13 digs and three blocks. Alana Durtschi added four blocks and 10 digs. Myah Johnson dished out seven assists and blocked three spikes. Anna Ellinger added a pair of aces.

The game saw a large turnout in the crowd, as it was raising money to help cancer patients and their families. 


Black Hawk 3, Barneveld 2

SOUTH WAYNE — The Warriors picked up arguably their biggest win of the season Oct. 7, knocking off Barneveld in five sets, 18-25, 25-18, 25-17, 18-25, 15-12.

Raylin Peterson had seven kills, while Alyssa Lange, Tatum Baumgartner and Tara Wellnitz each had four. Peterson and Wellnitz added four blocks each, with Baumgartner notching two. Wellnitz had the team’s lone ace, and Baumgartner tallied 10 digs. Ellie Edler dished out 12 assists.


Pecatonica 3, Black Hawk 0

SOUTH WAYNE — The Vikings toppled the Warriors Oct. 5, 25-18, 25-15, 25-17.

Edler had eight assists. Peterson finished with three kills and a block, while Wellnitz had three kills and two blocks.


Pecatonica 3, Juda 0

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Vikings swept the Panthers Oct. 7, 25-18, 25-11, 25-16

Lexi Peterson finished with 12 kills and two blocks for Pecatonica, while teammate Siri Thronson tallied eight kills and four blocks. Tessa Green had four kills, four aces, three digs and 10 assists. Chloe Schraepfer dished out 11 assists. 


McFarland 3, Brodhead 0

MCFARLAND — With the Rock Valley Conference title on the line, the state’s No. 3-ranked D2 team edged the No. 6 squad in D3, 25-21, 25-20, 25-17.

The Cardinals didn’t do themselves many favors at the service line, finishing with eight errors and an 86.7% service rate. Alexis Kammerer had the team’s lone ace, as the Spartans serve receive dug everything else that made it over the net and inbounds.

Abbie Dix ended the night with eight kills and five blocks. Kammerer had 21 assists and 12 digs. McKenna Young added six kills and a block. 


Belleville 3, Deerfield 0

BELLEVILLE — The Wildcats notched a sweep of Deerfield Oct. 7. 

Callie Smith and Alyssa Caskey led the way at the net, each finishing with seven kills. Smith added three blocks, while Rachel Carl blocked two shots of her own. Gina Salmela and Karena Simmons each had an ace for Belleville. Jenna Edge tallied 15 assists. Morgan Messner led the Wildcats with seven digs.
