Belleville Pitchers Allow One Hit As Wildcats Win Over Marshall

Belleville pitchers Marcus Hebgen and Austin McKinley combined on a one-hitter to lead the Belleville Wildcats to a 5-3 win over Marshall in a Capitol South conference game on April 24. Belleville trailed 3-2 after four innings but the Wildcats got two runs in the fifth and an insurance run in the sixth to secure the win. Third baseman Gavan Crum, batting ninth, delivered two hits and scored two runs while shortstop Niles Monroe smacked a double and scored two runs with an RBI to lead Belleville. Catcher Brennan Keyes and first baseman James Markhardt each drove in a run. Belleville. 4-7 overall, is now in a three-way tie for first place in the Capitol South at 3-1. Belleville was scheduled to play Monticello-Albany in a non-conference game on April 28 before returning to Capitol South action on April 29 at New Glarus.


New Glarus Hangs On For 9-7 Win Over Wisconsin Heights

The New Glarus Glarner Knights raced out to a 6-2 lead and made it hold up in a 9-7 win over the Wisconsin Heights Vanguards in Capitol South Conference baseball on April 24 at Mazomanie. A five-run third inning proved to be the difference as the Knights avenged a 3-2 loss to the Vanguards earlier in the week. The Vanguards scored five runs over the final two innings, but it wasn’t enough. Right fielder Ethan Colstad tripled and drove in a run and scored two runs to lead the Glarner Knights. Junior second baseman Landon Stelter was 3x4 with two RBIs and scored a run. Sophomore Nolan Julseth pitched six and 1/3 innings and allowed six runs, four earned, on four hits with 11 strikeouts. Julseth got relief help from Kam Nehmer and Clem Meter-Brooks to nail down the win.


New Glarus Rallies, But Eventually Loses To Edgerton 12-9

The New Glarus Glarner Knights found themselves down 7-1 after one inning to Edgerton, but rallied to take the lead, only to lose 12-9 in non-conference baseball on April 25 at Edgerton. A seven-run first inning put the Crimson Tide on top, 7-1, but the Glarner Knights scored two runs in the second inning to trail 7-3. In the fourth, the Knights strung together three runs to get to within 7-6. In the bottom of the inning, Edgerton got a lone run to make the score 8-6. A three-run fifth gave the Glarner Knights their first lead of the game at 9-8, but the lead did not last long. The Crimson Tide struck for four runs in the bottom of the inning to re-gain the lead and take the win. Junior Ashlin Mihlbauer went 2x3 with three RBIs in a losing effort. Catcher Landon Stelter was 3x4 with an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Nolan Julseth played shortstop had two hits in four at-bats and scored two runs. New Glarus (6-4, 2-2 Capitol South) hosted the Belleville Wildcats in conference action on April 29.


Argyle-Black Hawk No-Hit, Then Gets First Win Of The Season

Argyle-Black Hawk was no-hit by River Ridge in a 12-1 Six Rivers Conference win by the Timberwolves in baseball on April 24 at Argyle. The Orioles did get five walks, which enabled them to score a run the fourth inning. Trent Bidlingmair and Deacon Kuebli received walks and Ike Waage scored the lone run for the Orioles. 

The Orioles got their first win of the season on April 25 with a 4-3 victory over Shullsburg-Benton at Argyle. With the ‘W’, Argyle-Black Hawk is 1-8 in the Six Rivers conference, and 1-10 overall. The Orioles are at Belmont on April 28 and at home against Pecatonica on April 29.


Monticello-Albany Falls To Iowa-Grant 8-2

The Monticello-Albany Space Stallions fell to the Iowa-Grant Panthers, 8-2 in nonconference high school baseball on April 24. The Panthers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, only to have the Space Stallions close to within 3-2 in the fourth inning. The Panthers rebounded with three runs in the third and two more runs in the fifth. Sophomore shortstop Tyler Constantini went 2x4 with a walk and a run scored. Senior left fielder Cody Pryce was 1x3 with a run scored. Starting pitcher Tyler Patchen had two hits in three at-bats and drove in a run. Patchen pitched five innings and gave up three runs. The Space Stallions lost their fifth straight and dropped to 1-10 overall.


Timberwolves Shut Out Space Stallions 5-0

The River Ridge Timberwolves had the Monticello-Albany Space Stallions’ number in Six Rivers conference baseball on April 25 with a 5-0 shutout in five innings. The Space Stallions reached base just seven times on five base hits and two walks against the Timberwolves. Sophomore shortstop Tyler Constantini was the only player to reach base twice for Monticello-Albany with a base hit and a walk. Ty Durtschi started on the mound and allowed four runs on seven hits. Albany-Monticello was scheduled to play a non-conference game in Albany against Belleville on April 28.


Brodhead-Juda Suffers Another One-Run Loss

Another one-run loss for the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals as Big Foot slipped past the Cardinals, 3-2 in eight innings on April 24 in Rock Valley Conference, Rock Division action at Walworth. It was the fifth one-run loss for Brodhead-Juda this season. The Cardinals had a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Chiefs tied it at 2-2 with a pair runs to send the game into extra innings. The Chiefs won it with a run in the bottom of the eighth. Starting pitcher Sam Searls drove in a run with a double and Tyrin Foster had an RBI. Searls pitched six innings and allowed two runs on four hits. He walked four and struck out 10. Brodhead-Juda dropped to 1-1 in the RVC-Rock and 6-4 overall. The Cardinals hosted Edgerton on April 29.


Darlington Falls Short Against Lancaster

The Darlington Redbirds were looking for their second straight road win but came up short against the Lancaster Flying Arrows, 7-4 in non-conference baseball on April 24. The Redbirds (3-8, 1-4 SWAL) had taken a 4-2 lead with a 3-run sixth inning, but the Flying Arrows charged back with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to claim the win. Catcher Sloan Glendenning had a double and three RBIs while senior Maddox Goebel scored two runs for the Redbirds. Calum Crist started and took the loss, going five innings and allowing six runs on four hits. The Redbirds play at Riverdale April 29.


Pec Blanked By Belmont

The Pecatonica Vikings had no answer for Belmont pitcher Tanner Simmons in a 10-0 loss in Six Rivers conference baseball on April 25. Simmons shut down the Vikings on one hit, a two out single by Marty Anderson in the fifth inning that spoiled what would have been a no-hitter by Simmons. The Vikings did get other baserunners against Simmons with three walks, a hit batter, and a dropped third strike that was ruled a passed ball. Drew Hendrickson was the only player to reach base twice for Pec. Junior Austin Enloe started for the Vikings and took the loss as Belmont scored three runs in the first inning. Pecatonica hosted Barneveld in Six Rivers conference action on April 28.
