Belleville forces tie atop Capitol South

NEW GLARUS — Carter Scholey’s 3-pointer with 7.8 seconds left in a Capitol South Conference game gave Belleville a 72-70 victory over New Glarus on Tuesday, Feb. 13. With the win, the Wildcats (10-11, 6-1) and Glarner Knights (14-7, 6-1) are tied atop the conference standings with three games left.

Belleville shot lights out from 3-point range, making 12 threes. Jackson Scholey scored 21 points in the first half, all from beyond the arc. He finished with 27. Evan Thomas tallied 14 points with a pair of threes, and Carter Scholey made two 3-pointers in his 8-point total. Jack Erickson finished with 13 points and one 3. 

New Glarus had four players in double figures, led by Brett Warrell with 14 points. He recorded four 3-pointers. Charlie Sarbacker finished with 11 points and three 3s. Max Marty chipped in 10 points with a three, and Cade Thayer scored all 12 points inside the arc. Jake Roth accounted for the Glarner Knights’ ninth 3-pointer.

DARLINGTON 65, SOUTHWESTERN 48

DARLINGTON — With a SWAL win over Southwestern on Tuesday, Feb. 13, Darlington and Mineral Point remain deadlocked atop the conference. Both teams have two SWAL games left.

In Tuesday’s contest, the No. 2 Redbirds (20-2, 11-1) were 10-for-22 from beyond the arc. Broker Buschor went 4-for-7 from 3-point range, finishing with 14 points. Brady Long made three 3s in his 11-point total. Will Murray (19 pts), Reagan Jackson (6 pts) and Zeke Zuberbuhler (5 pts) also made one 3-pointer each. Carter Murray finished with 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for a double-double. 

MONROE 89, WHITEWATER 54

WHITEWATER — Twelve different Cheesemakers scored — including three in double figures — in a Rock Valley Conference win on Monday, Feb. 12.

Monroe (14-7, 9-2) played a selfless game, tallying 28 assists. James Seagreaves, who scored 17 points, had a team-high seven assists. Mekhi Brown recorded five assists, while Logan Taylor and Marcus Ott assisted in four buckets.

Ryan Mathiason led the offense with 19 points, going 7-for-10 from the line. Taylor chipped in 15 points with a team-high six rebounds. Keegan Dahmen played just three minutes, but he went 2-for-2 from beyond the arc for six points.

The Cheesemakers played a crucial conference game against Jefferson (14-7, 10-2) on Friday, Feb. 16. Results of that contest will be in the Wednesday, Feb. 21 edition of the Monroe Times.

BRODHEAD 79, CLINTON 59

CLINTON — Despite a 3-for-14 at the free-throw line, the Cardinals upended the Cougars in a Rock Valley Conference game on Tuesday, Feb. 13. 

Clinton (6-15, 3-9) also had a poor shooting performance, going 7-for-17 from the line and 2-for-21 from beyond the arc.

Brodhead (10-11, 6-6) found more success from 3-point range, making eight 3s. Cullen Walker made four 3-pointers in his team-best 23-point total. Sam Searls made a pair of threes in his 10-point total, while Joey Brown and Jayson Montiel made one each. Brody Riese was the third Cardinal in double figures with 14 points.

ARGYLE 57, MONTICELLO 53

MONTICELLO — A pair of free throws from Max Godfrey with 40.8 seconds left in the game proved to be the difference in a Six Rivers East contest on Tuesday, Feb. 13. As a team, the Orioles (14-7, 8-2) finished 9-for-13 from the charity stripe. 

Mason McNett and Ike Waage led Argyle, both recording double-doubles. McNett scored 14 points with nine rebounds, and Waage tallied 14 points with 14 rebounds and six assists. Will Helfvogt was the third Oriole in double figures with 12 points.

Ryer Indergand led Monticello (8-12, 5-5) with 25 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Alex Roe scored a career-high 19 points, going 4-for-10 beyond the arch. Peyton Smith and Hunter Grossen made defensive impacts with seven and six rebounds, respectively. 

PECATONICA 47, ALBANY 43

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Vikings held off the Comets in a Six Rivers East game on Tuesday, Feb. 13. Albany (11-11, 4-7) turned a 14-point deficit with five minutes to play to just a four-point loss. 

Second-chance opportunities from offensive rebounds were in Pecatonica’s (13-7, 9-2) favor, as the Vikings grabbed 14 offensive boards for 17 points. Jameson Johnson led with 16 points and eight rebounds. Evan Dochnal grabbed seven rebounds, while Charles Anderson and Tyler McKeon had six each.

Ty Durtschi tallied 18 points, going 5-for-9 beyond the arc. He also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. Drew Sertle contributed to the defensive effort with seven rebounds, while Brayden Bakken distributed the offense with six assists. 

In other local boys basketball action, Dodgeville defeated Black Hawk 63-34. Juda dropped a conference contest to Barneveld, 68-19.
