LANCASTER — The New Glarus Glarner Knights went on the road to face the Lancaster Flying Arrows in a Division 3 regional semifinal on Thursday, March 5 and saw their season come to an end with a 71-58 loss to the Arrows.
Senior Matt Roth hit a three-pointer early in the game to give the Knights a 5-2 lead, but Lancaster (No. 4 seed) quickly got out to a double-digit lead. Senior Grady Johnson scored a basket with 29 seconds left in the first half to get New Glarus (No. 5 seed) within 29-19 at halftime.
Lancaster increased their lead to 33-19 lead with 16:52 left in the game before Roth hit another three-pointer to cut the deficit to 11 points at 33-22. Lancaster went on a 12-5 run before Roth made a spinning layup with 12:21 left to make it 45-29. Junior Nolan Julseth got a layup with 3:52 left but Lancaster already had a 61-41 lead and the Knights could not get any closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
Lancaster shot 47% for the game while New Glarus shot just 28%. Julseth led the Glarner Knights with 29 points. Roth scored 18 points in his final game for New Glarus. Seniors Tatem Stampfli and Grady Johnson also played in their last game for the Glarner Knights.
The Glarner Knights finished the season as co-champions of the Capitol South Conference with Cambridge and Marshall and an overall record of 16-10.
