DARLINGTON — Due to state restrictions for schools pertaining to the COVID-19 virus, the Darlington High School cross country team will not be allowed to make its 18th-annual Run Across Wisconsin. The pandemic, however, will not stop Redbirds’ coach and event organizer Arnie Miehe from continuing the team’s tradition.

Instead of holding a Run Across Wisconsin event this year, Miehe and his son, Kent, will be making a Ride Across Wisconsin in support of the 2020 Lafayette County Relay For Life.

The Miehes will be taking 10-mile turns on a bike on Wednesday, June 17 and Thursday, June 18, until they complete a 164-mile journey from Lake Michigan to the Mississippi River. They plan to cover more than 100 miles from Kenosha to Monroe the first day, and then return the next day to complete their ride.

Any money raised prior to their trip and along their ride will be donated to the Lafayette County Relay for Life, which is scheduled to be held on Friday and Saturday, June 19-20.

This year the Ride Across Wisconsin has been dedicated to Darlington High School principal Aaron Lancaster, who is currently undergoing cancer treatments.
