Argyle tops MP in regular season finale

MINERAL POINT — Argyle capped its regular season schedule with a 2-1 extra inning nonconference win over Mineral Point June 11.

Grace Ganshert had a hit and three walks at the plate, and on the mound struck out 15 while allowing four hits and an unearned run in eight innings of work. Maggie Godfrey had Argyle’s only other hit and scored both runs for the Orioles.

Mineral Point took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly. In the next half inning, Godfrey singled with two outs and Ganshert walked. Back-to-back passed balls during Oliva Isely’s at-bat allowed Godfrey to move to third and then score. 

In the top of the eighth inning, Godfrey put a 1-2 ball into play and reached on an error at third base. Ganshert then singled to center with Godfrey going first-to-third on the play. With one out, Megan Johnson walked on a full count, watching three straight balls to close the plate appearance. With two outs, Godfrey scored again during Megan Larson’s at bat. 

Ganshert then sat down the Pointers on eight pitches in the bottom of the eighth to end the game.
