Argyle pushes Barneveld, falls short

ARGYLE — The Orioles challenged the No. 8-ranked Eagles on Tuesday, Oct. 10 but ultimately fell 25-13, 25-22, 10-25, 25-10. With the win Barneveld won the Six Rivers East Conference title outright.

Kylie Butler led the Oriole offense with 13, followed by Brooke Wellnitz with nine. Ava Wiegel distributed the ball with 24 assists. At the service line, Avari Steiner accounted for Argyle’s only ace. Defensively, Alexis Rosenstiel tallied three blocks, while Mya McNett dug out 17 attacks.


PECATONICA 3, JUDA 0

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Vikings beat the Panthers 25-14, 25-7, 25-18 on Tuesday, Oct. 10. 

“We worked through a different line up in each of the three sets and it was really great to see people come off the bench and seamlessly fill roles,” head coach Liz McGowan said. “The girls really leaned in and played together last night for an all-around team win.”

With Barneveld’s win over Argyle, Pecatonica finished second in the Six Rivers East — just one game back of the Eagles. 


ALBANY 3, BLACK HAWK 0

ALBANY — The Comets swept the Warriors 25-21, 25-12, 25-23 on Tuesday, Oct. 10. With the win, Albany secured third in the Six Rivers East Conference. 

Alana Durtschi and Anna Ellinger led Albany in multiple statistical categories. Durtschi tallied 14 kills, two blocks and 16 digs, while Ellinger recorded 13 kills and two blocks. Avary Briggs served up three aces with 14 digs. Rachel Wildt chipped in two more aces. Ellie Modaff and Myah Johnson split setting duties with 17 and 11 assists, respectively. Modaff also dug out 12 attacks.

For Black Hawk, Allyse Troemel led the offense with six kills. Mya Milz distributed the offense with 10 assists and dug out five attacks. Veronica Cheatham and Maddy Lange tallied one block each, while Makayla Kammes served up three aces.


DARLINGTON 3, SOUTHWESTERN 0

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds locked in third place in the SWAL with a 25-15, 25-16, 29-27 win over the Wildcats on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

Darlington used an array of hitters to score, with Jaidyn Evenstad recording a team-high 11 kills. Lilly Ritchie chipped in eight, Aubrey McCarthy seven and Maddie Gratz six. McCarthy and Allie Andrews shared the setting duties, tallying 16 and 10 assists, respectively. At the service line, the Redbirds nabbed 12 aces with half of them coming from McCarthy. Ritchie and McCarthy kept rallies alive with 10 and 14 digs, respectively. 

In other local volleyball, Brodhead fell to Evansville 23-25, 25-12, 25-19, 29-27.
