Argyle-Pecatonica drops the hammer on Benton

BENTON — The Orioles proved why they are a top-10 team in Division 4 by scoring nearly 100 points against the Zephyrs in a Six Rivers conference crossover game Dec. 20. Argyle-Pecatonica, ranked No. 7 in Division 4 per the latest WisSports.net Coaches Poll, trounced Benton 97-33 with four of its five starters in double figures. 

Brooke Wellnitz and Kylie Butler led the offense with 28 points each, both going 4-for-6 from the charity stripe. Avari Steiner scored a career-high 20 points, including four 3-pointers. Loretta Tisch chipped in 15 points.


ALBANY-MONTICELLO 64, HIGHLAND 37

HIGHLAND — Every player that saw the floor for the Space Stallions scored in a balanced win over the Cardinals Dec. 20.

Dalana Trumpy led the way with 14 points. She needs just 35 points to reach 1,000 in her career and could reach that as early as Dec. 23 against Brodhead or Dec. 27 at Parkview. Molly Olson scored 11 points, followed by Anna Ellinger with 10. 

Albany-Monticello is one of two undefeated teams ranked in the top 10 of Division 5 per WisSports.net, right behind top-ranked Assumption.


BLACK HAWK 54, 

POTOSI-CASSVILLE 47

POTOSI — With yet another double-double for Maddy Lange, the Warriors defeated the Chieftains in a Six Rivers Conference crossover game Dec. 20. The senior scored 30 points with 12 rebounds to lead the team.

The next highest scorer was Reese Anderson with eight points, while Hailey Wellnitz grabbed 11 rebounds. 


EAST TROY 71, MONROE 3

EAST TROY — Anastasia Lattin scored the Cheesemakers’ first points of a Rock Valley-Valley Conference contest against the Trojans four minutes into the second half. Brynlee Scace went 1-for-2 from the free-throw line, and those were the only points Monroe scored. The Cheesemakers attempted just 22 shots, recording a 4.5 field goal percentage. 


DARLINGTON 51, FENNIMORE 36

DARLINGTON — Rebounds were an important part of the Redbirds’ win over the Golden Eagles in a SWAL contest Dec. 20. Darlington outrebounded Fennimore 44-33, which led to 11 second-chance points.

Maddie Gratz led the team with 15 points, while Sadie Goebel tallied 13 rebounds. Lilly Ritchie and Catie Hartwig grabbed eight boards each.

In other local girls basketball, Brodhead edged out Evansville 37-25 and Juda fell to Belmont 60-12.
