ARGYLE — The Orioles got the season underway March 28 with an 8-2 win over Palmyra-Eagle in a nonconference game.

Grace Ganshert tossed a complete game, striking out 13 on 88 pitches with zero walks, five hits and just one earned run. At the plate Ganshert doubled, walked and scored a run.

Megan Johnson, Jenny Helfvogt, Laney Starr and Alexis Rosenstiel each had two hits for Argyle, while Starr had two walks and Hannah Gierhart walked three times. Lindsay Connors doubled and drove in three runs, and Helfvogt doubled and scored. Eight different Orioles stole a base.

Argyle took a 1-0 lead into the second, and made it 4-0 after four innings. Palmyra-Eagle brought it back to within two runs in the top of the sixth inning, but the Orioles plated four runners in the home half of the frame.


Darlington 15, Monticello-New Glarus 9

MONTICELLO — The Redbirds pounded out 12 hits, walked eight times and reached base twice on hit-by-pitches en route to their nonconference win March 29.

Cayla Golackson had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in four for Darlington. Greta Volkening, Ashlynn Norgard, Josie Thomas and Jaylyn Schwartz each had two hits. Norgard drove in three runs, scored three times and stole three bases.

Karlee Wilkins had three hits to lead MNG, while Megan Peterson and Jaden Zuber each had two hits. One of Zuber’s hits was a triple. 

Sophie Wiegel got the win on the mound for Darlington, striking out seven while allowing seven hits, 11 walks and five earned runs. Monticello pitched three players.
