Area schools compete at UWP hosted meets

PLATTEVILLE — Albany, Belleville, Black Hawk, Monticello, and New Glarus boys and girls track teams competed in the UW-Platteville high school invitational on Thursday, March 26. No team scores were kept.

In the girls 55 meter dash, sophomore Vivian Lancaster of New Glarus took first place with a time of 7.52 seconds. Belleville’s Braxtyn Ayers, a freshman, finished in fifth place in the girls 200 meter dash with a time of 29.38 seconds. The Albany Comets had two runners place back-to-back in the girls 400 meter dash. Sophomore Tatum Doescher was 10th in 1:13.76 and freshman Piper Patchen was 11th in 1:14.77.

Freshman Emma Thompson of Albany placed sixth in the girls 800 meter run in 2:49.60 and she placed third in the 1600 meter run in 6:17.75.  In the girls 3,200 meter run, junior Mirielle Smith of Monticello finished in third place with a time of 14:19.99 while sophomore Mya Clark of New Glarus was fourth in 14:30.53. New Glarus junior Marie Besley qualified for the finals in the girls 55 meter hurdles and finished in fourth place in 10.11 seconds.

In relay running, the New Glarus Glarner Knights won the girls 4x200 meter relay as the team of sophomore Vivian Lancaster, freshman Kennedy Sysko, junior Kalia Malaise, and freshman Adelyn Sarbacker ran the track in 1:57.10. The Albany Comets got a top five result in the girls 4x400 meter relay as freshman Piper Patchen, sophomore Raegan Hollis, sophomore Tatum Doescher, and freshman Emma Thompson took fifth place in 5:00.93.

Sophomore Annabelle Curl of New Glarus was third in the high jump with a jump of 4-feet, 6-inches and sophomore Raegan Hollis of Albany finished fifth with a jump of 4-4. In the girls pole vault, junior Marie Besley of New Glarus was third as she cleared 7-6. Freshman Emma Thompson of Albany placed sixth in the girls long jump with a jump of 13-7.5. 

Junior Kalia Malaise of New Glarus earned third place in the girls triple jump as she completed a jump of 32-2. In the girls shot put, sophomore Ali Flood of Albany finished in third place with her shot put attempt at 31-6. Right behind her was freshman Allison Grunewald of New Glarus in fourth place with a throw of 31-3.

In the boys competition, freshman Bowen Wilson of Black Hawk finished in fifth place in the 200 meter dash in 25.19 seconds. In the 400 meter dash, senior Beckett Wachholz of Albany was sixth in 18.88 seconds while junior Brayden Schmitt of New Glarus was seventh in 59.39. The 800 meter run saw sophomore Brooks Wachholz of Albany take fifth place in 2:21.21 and junior Carson Biermeier of Belleville finished in eighth place in 2:24.33.

Brooks Wachholz also performed well in the 1,600 meter run as he captured sixth place with a time of 5:12.09. His teammate, senior Kaleb Broughton of Albany, was seventh in the 1,600 with a time of 5:14.37. In other long distance running, sophomore Kamden Broughton of Albany finished in second place in the 3,200 meter run in 11:53.91. Also, sophomore Landon Marty of New Glarus was sixth with a time of 16:22.25. 

Sophomore Kaden Dammen of New Glarus qualified for the 55 meter hurdles and took seventh place in 10.45 seconds. The New Glarus Glarner Knights took third place in the 4x200 meter relay as junior Tucker Sysko, freshman Isaac Christiansen, senior Jaiden Sidwell, and senior Milo Johnson completed the relay in 1:41.71. New Glarus also placed fourth in the 4x400 meter relay as the relay team of senior Tikeh Tazeh, Sidwell, senior Sawyer O’Flanagan, and Johnson ran the relay in 4:03.21. The Albany Comets were third in the 800 meter relay with the relay team of Kaleb Broughton, junior Noah Lisser, Kamden Broughton, and Beckett Wachholz completing the race in 9:41.19.

Tucker Sysko of New Glarus was the second place finisher in the high jump with a jump of 5-8. Another New Glarus athlete, junior Brayden Schmitt cleared 10 feet and was third in the pole vault. Senior Ethan Seffrood of New Glarus placed second in the long jump at 18-3.5. Senior Kamron Parker of Albany was fifth in the long jump (18-1.25) and fifth in the triple jump (38-7). 

Junior Brent Weeden of New Glarus won the shot put with a toss of 51-11.5. Junior Cole Dunlavey was second with a shot put toss of 41-8.5.


Belleville at UWP Inside-Out

PLATTEVILLE — The Belleville Wildcats competed against nine other teams in the Inside-Out Boys and Girls track meet at UW-Platteville on Friday, March 27. No team scores were kept.

Freshman Braxton Ayers qualified for the girls 55 meter dash and took fifth place with a time of 7.90 seconds. The Wildcats finished in seventh place in the girls 4x200 meter relay as the relay team of freshman Alise Alexander, Braxton Ayers, sophomore Elise Gehin, and junior Zoey Pfile completed the relay in 2:03.73. Pfile also participated in the long jump and came in ninth place with a jump of 12-6. Belleville also had an entry in the shot put, where Alexander came in ninth place with a shot put distance of 26-7.

The Wildcats were represented well in the boys competition as junior Jesse Luchsinger took fifth place in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.01 seconds. In the 200 meter dash, freshman Wyatt Gehin finished in 11th place in 26.42 seconds and sophomore Matt Allen finished in 12th place in 26.61 seconds.

The 400 meter dash saw junior Carson Biermeier take seventh place with a time of 59.02. Junior Adrian Scott finished in 11th place in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:38.97. Belleville got a top five finish from their 4x200 meter relay team as sophomore Matt Allen, sophomore Dawson Brown, junior Tyler Miyamoto, and junior Cameron Pawloski took fifth place in 1:45.20. 

Miyamoto came in fourth place in the high jump as he reached 5-6 in the first of the field events. The Wildcats had two athletes place in the pole vault as junior Ethan Kaetterhenry cleared 8-6 and took sixth place. In seventh place was Dawson Brown with a pole vault of eight feet. Kaetterhenry placed ninth in the long jump with a jump of 17-10. Junior Broderick Gobel was the fourth place finisher in the shot put as got off a throw of 42-10. In the discus throw, Gobel took sixth place with a toss of 120-11.
