VERONA — Argyle-Pec sophomore Avari Steiner shot 82-85 for a 167 total to place 18th out of 52 players at the WIAA Division 3 State Golf Tournament held Monday June 9 and Tuesday June 10 at University Ridge Golf Course in Verona. Neillsville’s Tucker Johnson won the individual title with a score of 152.
Argyle-Pec coach Chuck Chandler said, “I was really proud of how Avari competed. She just couldn’t get the ball in the hole, missing several putts she usually makes,” said Chandler. Steiner’s presence at the State tournament drew a lot of fans, and Chandler couldn’t help but notice. “There was a nice gallery following her. That’s a lot of pressure for a 16 year old girl playing her first time at state and in the boys tournament. Several other coaches came up to me to say how impressed they were with her ball striking,” said Chandler.
Steiner was the only golfer from the SWAL to compete at the State Tournament.
