AM dominates BH; AP, Monroe win

SOUTH WAYNE — Senior Molly Olson led all scorers with 17 points and sophomore Heidi Olson added some offense of her own with 10 points as the Albany-Monticello Space Stallions pounded the Black Hawk Warriors 63-12 in Six Rivers East Conference girls basketball on Thursday, Jan. 8.

AM also got 10 points from freshman Emerson Butts as the Space Stallions rolled up a 43-7 halftime lead. Senior Emily Figi led the Warriors with five points.

Albany-Monticello (10-1, 4-1 Six Rivers East) had a nonconference road game at Evansville on Saturday, Jan. 10, and won 70-34. Black Hawk (3-6, 0-5) had a conference game with Juda scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 13.


Argyle-Pecatonica 74, Juda 28

JUDA — Senior Kylie Butler scored 29 points and junior Brooke Wellnitz scored 23 points to lead Argyle-Pecatonica to a 74-28 win over the Juda Panthers in Six Rivers East Conference girls basketball on Thursday, Jan. 8.

The 78ers led 50-7 at halftime. Sophomore Sophie Bolton led the Panthers in scoring with 14 points. 

AP remains ranked No. 2 in the Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Division 5 girls basketball poll for Week 7. Argyle-Pecatonica (11-1, 6-0 Six Rivers East) will travel to Prairie du Chien for a nonconference game on Tuesday, Jan. 13. Juda (2-9, 0-5) had a nonconference game scheduled at Williams Bay on Saturday, Jan. 10.


Monroe 47, Madison West 30

MADISON — It took a while for the Monroe Cheesemakers to get started in their nonconference game at Madison West on Thursday, Jan. 8, but once they got started, they couldn’t be stopped as the Cheesemakers rolled to a 47-30 win over the Regents.

Monroe sputtered for much of the first half as they scored just three points over the first 10 minutes of the game. Freshman Lizzy Veeder brought the Cheesemakers to life with a basket that put them ahead 14-13. A 6-0 run by Madison West put the Regents on top 20-14 at halftime.

After the Regents scored on their first possession of the second half, Monroe went on a 26-0 run to take control. Sophomore Brynlee Scace piloted the run by hitting four three-pointers. Sophomore Analise Newcomer added a three and junior Braylee Friedrich scored six points during the run to give the Cheesemakers a 40-21 lead.

Scace finished with 23 points, Friedrich had eight points, and Veeder chipped in with seven points to lead the Cheesemakers’ offensive attack.

Monroe (3-6) had back-to-back home games with Whitewater on Monday, Jan. 12 and Edgerton on Tuesday, Jan. 13.


Jefferson 44, Brodhead 37

BRODHEAD — The Brodhead Cardinals could not overcome a 21-17 halftime deficit and lost to the Jefferson Eagles, 44-37 in a Rock Valley Conference crossover game on Thursday, Jan. 8.

The Eagles were able to hold Brodhead’s Alecia Dahl to 10 points. The senior and all-time leading scorer for the Cardinals averages 21.7 points per game. Senior Gretchen Kammerer scored nine points and senior Chesney Walker scored seven points for the Cardinals. In the second half, the Cardinals could muster only 20 points and made no three-point baskets. Brodhead was also just 4-for-18 from the free throw line for the game.

Brodhead (10-2, 3-2) will play another Rock Valley Conference crossover game at East Troy on Tuesday, Jan. 13.


New Glarus 56, Wis. Heights 32

NEW GLARUS — Juniors Kalia Malaise, Kate Parman, and Ellie Brenkman combined to score 37 points to lead the New Glarus Glarner Knights to a 56-32 win over the Wisconsin Heights Vanguards on Thursday, Jan. 8 in Capitol South Conference girls basketball.

Malaise and Parman each scored 13 points and Brenkman dropped in 11 points to lead New Glarus (6-6, 1-0). The Glarner Knights took a 37-19 halftime lead and let their defense do the rest as New Glarus allowed the Vanguards to score just 13 points in the second half.

New Glarus had a nonconference game scheduled for Tuesday, Jan 13 at home against Dodgeland.


Belleville 60, Marshall 49

BELLEVILLE — Senior Toria Devoe scored 15 of her 25 points in the second half and Belleville’s defense limited Marshall to just 16 points after halftime to take a 60-49 win over the Cardinals in Capitol South Conference girls basketball on Thursday, Jan. 8.

The Wildcats were down 33-30 at halftime, but Devoe got hot and junior Bryn Prochaska scored 11 of her 18 points in the second half as the Wildcats won their Capitol South conference opener and snapped a two game losing streak.

Belleville (6-6, 1-0) traveled to Wisconsin Heights for a conference game scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 13.
