ALBANY — After losing by just six points to the Warriors on Jan. 12, the Comets rebounded for a 44-39 overtime victory on Friday, Feb. 17.
“They [Albany] played a good zone defense against us and forced us to shoot from outside,” Black Hawk head coach Trent Wyssbrod said. “We struggled to knock down those shots. Eli Schliem stepped up again for us, as we had two of our normal starters out.”
Schliem scored 10 points for the Warriors, including a pair of 3-pointers. Seth Dunlavey led the offense, though, with 13 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. Jovanny Erickson also contributed on the boards with six rebounds. The Warriors were without starters Andrew Figi and Carter Baumgartner
Brayden Bakken paced Albany with 18 points, going 5-for-9 from the charity stripe with three 3-pointers. Ethan Koss trailed with 10 points, including a pair of threes. Defensively, Gage Roth and James Schwartz grabbed seven and six rebounds, respectively.
DARLINGTON 67, FENNIMORE 53
DARLINGTON — The Redbirds outscored the Eagles by seven points in each half for a SWAL victory on Friday, Feb. 17.
Brady Long paced the offense as one of three athletes in double figures. He tallied 18 points with a pair of threes and seven assists. Will Murray put up 16 points with seven rebounds, while Carver Fitzsimons scored 15 points with a team-best eight rebounds. Murray and Riggs Black accounted for the remaining 3-pointers.
NEW GLARUS 81, WISCONSIN HEIGHTS 64
NEW GLARUS — Senior AC Strok went off for 37 points to lead the Knights to a Capitol South victory on Friday, Feb. 17.
Strok was a perfect 12-for-12 at the charity stripe, knocking down five 3-pointers. Max Parman and Ethan Friedrich trailed with 13 points each. Parman sank a pair of threes, while Friedrich went 4-for-7 at the free-throw line with one 3-pointer.
EDGERTON 64, BRODHEAD 49
BRODHEAD — Despite their second loss to the Crimson Tide, the Cardinals improved since their first meeting. Edgerton defeated Brodhead 87-45 on Friday, Jan. 7, but on Friday, Feb. 17, Brodhead lost by just 15.
Jaxon Dooley led the offense with 13 points, seven of which came at the free-throw line. Nathan Engen also scored in double figures with 10 second-half points. The Cardinals made three shots from beyond the arc — two by Cullen Walker and one by Sam Searls.
PECATONICA 94, JUDA 44
BLANCHARDIVILLE — The Vikings had their best offensive performance of the season its their Six Rivers East victory over the Panthers on Friday, Feb. 17.
Blake Adkins and Braydon Steinmann scored 13 points each to lead Juda. Steinmann was 4-for-9 from beyond the arc, while Adkins was 2-for-3. On the boards, Steinmann also led with five rebounds, followed by Jayden Brown with four.
After a 50-point victory, Pecatonica fell to Potosi 72-36 on Saturday, Feb. 18.
In other local boys basketball, Argyle fell to Barneveld 60-44.
