Albany splits with Parkview in DH

ORFORDVILLE — With a varsity basketball doubleheader split, the Lady Comets improve to 12-0 and the boys drop to 1-7.

Albany girls, ranked fifth in Division 5, allowed just four first-half points in its 60-24 victory over the Vikings.

Those four points came from Abby Anderson and Camilla Hauser. Conversely, Albany scored 34 first-half points, with 15 coming from Abby Hollis. The Comets outscored the Vikings yet again in the second half 26-20.

Hollis continued to succeed in the second half, scoring an additional eight points for a team-high 23 total. She was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line with three 3-pointers. The second highest scorers were Gracie Frietag and Alana Durtschi with 10 points each. Avary Briggs, who finished with nine points, had the fourth and final 3-pointer.

Hauser led Parkview with nine points. She and Sydney Brown recorded the only threes. The next highest scorer was Katie Klassy with five points.

Through the first ten games recorded on Wissports, Hollis leads all scorers with 16.2 points per game. Durtschi trails with 12.7 ppg, while Freitag tallies 10.6 ppg. With 32 3-pointers made, Hollis leads the second-place player, McKenna Broughton, by 23 threes.The top three rebounders are Freitag (7.6 rpg), Durtschi (6.1 rpg) and Broughton (5.6 rpg).

Unfortunately, Albany boys didn’t share the same fate, as they fell 56-33.

The Vikings had a 24-18 lead at halftime, but the Comets responded with a 5-0 run to start the second half. The one-point deficit was the closest Albany got though, as Parkview finished with 32 second-half points.

Ethan Koss finished with a team-best nine points and six rebounds, going 4-for-5 from the free-throw line with one 3-pointer. Brayden Bakken and Drew Sertle chipped in eight points each. The pair sank two 3-pointers apiece. The sixth and final 3-pointer came from Kaden Zurfluh (four points). Gage Roth, the fifth scorer, also recorded four points.

The Comets couldn’t stop Aiden Crane, who put up 22 points for Parkview. He was 4-for-8 from beyond the arc for 12 points. Rusty Klitzman (eight points) shot 33% from beyond the arc with two 3-pointers. Dayne Butzler also made a three for his only points of the game. Gauge Pomplun recorded a double-double with 11 points and a team-leading 11 rebounds.
