MONROE - For the second straight year, Black Hawk sophomore Natalie Leuzinger was named the Six Rivers East Conference's Player of the Year.
Leuzinger, who averaged 16.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game, to lead Black Hawk to a Six Rivers East Conference championship and a WIAA Division 5 state runner-up finish. Leuzinger was also named first-team all-conference for the second year in a row.
Three Black Hawk players received first-team all-conference honors. The other players who received first-team accolades include sophomore Hannah Butler and freshman Bailey Butler. The trio helped the Warriors finish the season 28-1 and go unbeaten in conference. Bangor knocked off Black Hawk in the Division 5 state championship game 39-29. Bailey Butler (15.5 ppg, 3.7 assists and 4.1 steals per game, her older sister Hannah Butler (11.6 ppg, 6 rpg) and Leuzinger were three of the top 3-point shooters in Division 5.
Black Hawk coach Mike Flanagan for the second straight year was named the conference's coach of the year.
The other first-team all-conference players are Argyle junior Jena Saalsaa and Barneveld senior Taryn Pickarts. Saalsaa was the conference's leading scorer (20.4 ppg, 9 rpg). Saalsaa led the Orioles to a 17-6 mark and a second-place tie in the conference at 9-3 along with Barneveld.
Albany had two players receive second-team all-conference honors including junior guard Payton Zurfluh and junior forward Libby Beck. The other second-team selections include Juda senior MacKenzie Byrne, Argyle junior Kirtsen Ostby and Barneveld senior Courtney Skaife.
Black Hawk senior Hannah Herbst and senior Brianna Hagen were both honorable mention all-conference. The two honorable mention all-conference players for Juda are senior Hailey Kammerer and senior Maddie Roth. The others who received honorable mention honors include Monticello junior Alyssen Noriega; Barneveld senior Grace Schutz, Albany senior Brook Kahler, Argyle junior Natalie Allison, Argyle senior Morgan Nelson and Barneveld senior Brooklyn Hogan-Weier.
