DARLINGTON - The Darlington boys basketball team had four players receive Southwest Wisconsin Activities League all-conference accolades recently.
Darlington junior Stryker Fitzsimons and freshman Carter Lancaster were named first-team all-conference for the Redbirds. Lancaster averaged 13.4 points per game and Fitzsimons averaged 12.2 points per game and led the Redbirds to a 16-8 overall record and at 10-4 a third-place tie in the league with Cuba City.
Mineral Point (21-5, 13-1 SWAL), the conference champions, knocked off Darlington 75-50 in a WIAA Division 4 regional final this season. The Pointers had four players named first-team all-conference led by Isaac Lindsey, who was the league's player of the year. Lindsey (18.9 ppg) was a catalyst and second-leading scorer for the Pointers. Mineral Point coach Dan Burreson was named the conference's coach of the year.
Darlington seniors Tanner Evenstad and Tony Ruesga were both named honorable mention all-conference. Evenstad (8.5 ppg) and Rusega (6.9 ppg) also played pivotal roles for Darlington which was coming off a WIAA Division 4 state runner-up finish last year.
