DARLINGTON - Some early pop in the Redbirds' bats allowed their ace to throw things on cruise control in Friday night's 10-0, five-inning victory over Benton at home.
Darlington (2-0) scored three times in the first inning and seven times in the second and senior Allison Taylor went the distance, fanning five and walking none.
"She's pitching with so much confidence right now," Darlington coach Rebecca Norgard said.
A confident Kari Blosch slapped two singles, scored twice and drove home a run to lead Darlington's six-hit effort.
The runaway nature of the win also allowed Norgard to clear out her bench and get looks at some players that could contribute above and beyond the first two games of the season, which continues Monday with a tough battle at Mineral Point to open SWAL play.
