Lady Ponies take second at Cuba City

CUBA CITY - The Monticello girls track team finished second Tuesday at the Cuba City Quad.

Cuba City outdistanced the Ponies, 91-55, to win the title. Monticello junior Kelsey Bernet had a hand in winning three events. Bernet won the 1,600-meter run (5 minutes, 42.30 seconds) and the 3,200 (12:30.9).

Bernet also helped the 1,600 relay team take first. Bernet teamed up with Haylee Thoman, Rachel Nelson and Lanie Havens to win the race with a time of 4:55.55.

Nelson won the 400 (1:03.44), and Nicole Smith finished first in the triple jump (27 feet, 10 inches).

In the boys meet, Monticello finished third with 29 points. Cuba City completed the sweep by sprinting to the title over Southwestern, 120.5-63.5.

Monticello's Parker Havens won the 400 (:56.72) and Lucas Carlino finished first in the 3,200 (12:53.10).
