NEW GLARUS - Junior Tyler Kreklow, after a crossover dribble, hit a game-winning, 17-foot jumper with 0.5 seconds left to give the New Glarus Glarner Knights a thrilling 52-50 win over Columbus Thursday.
Kreklow scored 21 points to lead the Knights.
"Tyler is our threat on the perimeter," New Glarus coach Travis Sysko said. "He's our best ballhandler. He made a crossover, stepped up and hit it."
The Knights (8-9, 3-3 Capitol South) led by 19-points with 4 minutes, 21 seconds left in the third quarter. The Knights led 42-28 heading into the fourth quarter. The Cardinals outscored the Knights 22-10 in the fourth quarter.
"They really picked up their defensive pressure and we turned it over," Sysko said. "We just had some mental mistakes. I have to give credit to Columbus. They hit their shots."
New Glarus senior Kirbe French scored 15 points. Kreklow and French were 10 of 13 from the free-throw line combined, including some big shots in the fourth quarter.
Darlington 56, Mineral Point 46 (OT)
MINERAL POINT - On a night when Alex Erickson was held to seven points, the Darlington Redbirds got extra minutes of basketball and extra scoring from Zach Brown. The senior scored 20 points to lead the Redbirds past the Mineral Point Pointers in overtime in SWAL Conference action Thursday.
The Pointers grabbed an 11-7 lead after one quarter but the Redbirds surged in front at 20-16 at halftime and took a 33-29 lead into the fourth quarter. Mineral Point (12-6, 7-4 SWAL) held the Redbirds to just four points in the fourth quarter and tied the game at 33-33 to send the game into overtime.
Senior Bryan Riechling scored 12 points to help the 8th-ranked Redbirds win their fifth straight game.
Darlington (16-2, 10-1 SWAL) will travel to Hazel Green to face Southwestern in a make-up of a game that was postponed Feb. 3.
Southwestern 57, Argyle 49
HAZEL GREEN - The Argyle Orioles were outscored 31-13 over the middle two quarters and came up short against the Southwestern Wildcats in a non-conference game Thursday.
The Orioles (4-13, 2-6 Six Rivers East) trailed 32-22 at halftime and saw the deficit grow to 47-28 before making a 21-10 run in the fourth quarter.
Senior Nate Thomas led the Orioles with 19 points and senior Ryan Geissbuhler scored eight points in a losing effort.
