BENTON - The New Glarus boys basketball team opened the Mike Alexander tournament with a 58-51 win over Benton, last year's WIAA Division 4 state champions.
The Zephyrs came back and sliced the Knights' lead to 41-40 enetering the fourth quarter. New Glarus oustcored the Zephyrs 17-11 in the fourth quarter.
"We came out and executed the game plan," New Glarus coach Travis Sysko said. "We wanted to get in the paint and attack the lane."
New Glarus senior Ryan Bright led the Knights with 16 points. Fellow senior Nick Stuessy scored 14 points, senior Cameron Jeglum had 13 and sophomore Tyler Kreklow added 11, which included two 3-pointers.
New Glarus (6-1) will play in the championship game against Southwestern today.
"We had great balance as far as scoring," Sysko said.
