BELLEVILLE - New Glarus sophomore Devon Boll scored a game-high 13 points and the Glarner Knights used a press to roll to a 46-25 win over Highway 69 rival Belleville Thursday.
New Glarus (6-10, 3-3 Capitol South) jumped out to an 18-9 lead in the first quarter and pushed the lead to 10 points at the half. The Knights outscored the Wildcats 10-2 in the third quarter to seal the win. The Knights had four players reach double figures. In addition to Boll, junior Vanessa Narveson scored 11 points and sophomore McKinley Righter chipped in 10 points.
"They played great defense and were really moving their feet, which was nice to see," New Glarus coach Megan Scheele said. "They got it going early and kept it going."
Belleville's Tara Hanna scored a team-high nine points.
Black Hawk 43, Juda 32
JUDA - Black Hawk junior Aleigha Sigafus scored a game-high 17 points and the Warriors used a big first quarter to knock off Juda 43-32 Thursday in a makeup game.
Black Hawk (4-11, 3-5 Six Rivers East) raced out to a 14-2 lead in the first quarter. The Panthers battled back to cut the Warriors' lead to five points at the half.
"They (Black Hawk) got off to a great start and I think that put us behind the eight-ball," Juda coach Curt Brown said. "We spent a lot of energy in the second quarter coming back."
Juda (6-10, 2-6 Six Rivers East) is in the midst of a stretch of five games in eight days. Juda will play at Monticello today.
Black Hawk freshman Hannah Herbst added 12 points and junior Brooke Moore had nine points.
Juda sophomore Chelsea Burkhalter scored a team-high 11 points. Sophomore teammates Alexis Goecks and Sara Jordan each added six points.
"We need a couple of other girls to step up," Brown said. "We have to find a couple of other scorers. That has really been our 'Achilles heel' this year."
