EVANSVILLE - A non-school day proved bittersweet for the New Glarus girls basketball team, as the Glarner Knights fell to Evansville on Monday, 70-50.

New Glarus did not have school, as a result of the first trimester ending on Friday. New Glarus coach Megan Scheele said the non-school day certainly affected her players.

"It gets them out of their schedule, out of their routine," Scheele said. "Their schedule (was) off, and it showed tonight."

Brielle Greenleaf didn't help either. The Evansville sophomore led the Blue Devils with 26 points, including five 3-pointers. Greenleaf and senior Kayla Klitzman (14 points) helped lead the Blue Devils to 38-22 lead at the half.

"Overall, they jumped on us early and we never came back," Scheele said. "They played well, and we weren't quite there tonight."

Despite the struggles on defense, the Knights were able to have two scorers with at least 15 points. Senior Lexi Hanson led the team with 16 points, and junior Karina Moen added 15. Eight of Moen's points came in the fourth quarter.

"Lexi stepped up tonight," Scheele said. "(Moen) was getting after it in the fourth quarter."

Back on a normal schedule, the Knights will travel to take on Lodi on Thursday.

Durand 42, Juda 17

DURAND - The Juda girls basketball team struggled offensively and fell to Durand on Monday, 42-17.

The Panthers managed just seven points in the first two quarters, missing six of six free throw attempts in the half. However, they came out stronger in the third quarter, putting up six points in the frame.

Leading the way for the Panthers was junior Tabatha Davis who scored eight points.

Caitlyn Derus led all Durand scorers, with 19 points.

The Panthers will travel to take on Black Hawk on Friday.
