NEW GLARUS - The Edelweiss Chalet Country Club grounds crew has a lot of Alex Johnson to look forward to this summer.
After qualifying for the Division 3 field of the WIAA state golf tournament last season as a sophomore, Johnson failed to repeat his first time around as an upperclassman.
His 85 shots on his home course Wednesday were a vast five shots off the qualifying cut.
Johnson was a team of one after his fellow Glarner Knights didn't make it through regionals. While Darlington's Redbirds took aim as a team at Edelweiss, they placed sixth with 364 shots.
Shoreland Lutheran cinched up the second team-qualifying spot with 347 strokes, while Racine Prairie ran away with the sectional meet with 332.
Darlington junior Brent Tuescher carded an 83, and classmate Adam Reichling (87) was the only other Cardinal in the 80s.
