NEW GLARUS - Zach Ketelboeter's arm and Mitch Keegan's bat powered New Glarus to a 3-2 baseball victory Wednesday over Waterloo.

Ketelboeter, a senior, pitched a complete game for the Glarner Knights, giving up two runs, five hits and two walks. He also threw five strikeouts.

New Glarus got a scare in the top of the fourth when Waterloo closed the lead to 3-2 and still had the bases loaded and two outs. But Ketelboeter was able to get the next batter out to end the Pirates' scoring opportunity.

"He pitched a great game," New Glarus coach Warren Howard said.

Ketelboeter also had two hits.

So did Keegan, his first hit was a first-inning single. Keegan then stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a second wild pitch to give the Glarner Knights a quick lead.

Waterloo tied the game in its half of the second inning.

But New Glarus answered right away in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good. Ketelboeter doubled, then as pinch runner Kirbe French was stealing third, Waterloo's catcher missed his target and the ball went sailing into left field. French easily scored for a 2-1 lead.

New Glarus added another run in the bottom of the second after Ryan Bright reached base, moved to third on Keegan's then scored on a hit by Corey Rahberger.

New Glarus (4-2 overall, 4-1 in conference) hosts Watertown Luther Prep today.
