NEW GLARUS - The Glarner Knights fell to 2-2 on the young season with a 53-39 loss to Cambridge in the Capitol South Conference opener Friday.
"It was close until the fourth quarter," said New Glarus head coach Megan Scheele. "Then they pulled away."
Cambridge held a 9-8 lead after the first quarter and 24-20 at halftime. Headed into the fourth quarter, the Knights by just seven points at 36-29.
"Fouls and turnovers hurt us and Cambridge executed on our mistakes," Scheele said.
Alycia Atwell led the Knights with 17 points and Anya Schween scored seven.
New Glarus travels to conference rival Belleville Thursday.

BRODHEAD - The Cardinals converted on five 3-pointers and led 34-12 at halftime en route to a dominating performance against Big Foot.
Brodhead (2-2, 2-0 Rock Valley South) opened the game strong and led 17-9 after the first quarter. Despite the 22-point halftime lead, the Cardinals didn't let off in the third quarter, outscoring the Chiefs 25-3 in the frame.
Taylor Douglas scored 15 points, Carly Mohns had 11 and Amanda Pickel added 10 and a pair of 3s.
The Cardinals host Mineral Point Tuesday.
Black Hawk 85, Pecatonica 31
BLANCHARDVILLE - Black Hawk had five players in double figures and the Warriors thrashed Pecatonica 85-31.
The Warriors outscored the Vikings 19-4 in the first quarter and led 40-16 at halftime.
The Vikings shot just 18.6 percent and had 22 turnovers. The Warriors also outrebounded the Vikings 40-26.
Black Hawk freshman Jen Wellnitz scored a game-high 16 points and senior Rachel Rygh had 15 points. Melissa Wellnitz and Katie Powers scored 11 each for the Warriors. Senior Alyssa Piefer added 10.
Pecatonica senior Ellie Gifford paced the Vikings with 10 points.
