MONTICELLO - New Glarus sophomore Trae VandeBerg scored a game-high 22 points to power the Knights to a 63-55 win over rival Monticello in the season opener on Saturday.
New Glarus led by three points at halftime and outscored the Ponies 19-12 in the fourth quarter.
New Glarus senior Ryan Zimmerman scored 10 points, senior Chris Pickett added nine and senior Tyler Kreklow chipped in eight.
Monticello senior Lukas Kolasch scored 22 points. Lucas Marty and Bryce Klitzke each added nine.
Beloit Turner 56, Albany 48
BELOIT - Albany sophomore Isaiah Shell scored a game-high 25 points, but the Comets couldn't hang on to a second-half lead and lost their season opener 56-48 to Beloit Turner on Saturday.
Albany jumped out to a 16-6 first-quarter lead and led by six points at halftime. The Trojans outscored the Comets 19-7 in the decisive fourth quarter.
Albany junior Tyler VanDusen and sophomore Mitchell Kauk each scored seven points.
Mineral Point 64, Pecatonica 56
BLANCHARDVILLE - Mineral Point's Dakota Poad was a go-to player for the Pointers.
Poad scored a game-high 28 points, including an 18-point outburst in the fourth quarter to edge Pecatonica.
The Vikings led 46-43 entering the fourth quarter. However, the Pointers outscored the Vikings 21-10 in the final period to win the game. Poad hit five 3-pointers to pace the Pointers.
Pecatonica senior Karson Feller scored a team-high 15 points, but he fouled out. Pecatonica's Tanner Kleppe scored 14 points and Drew Schliem added nine.
