ARGYLE - Coach Jason Pinnow said the Monticello baseball team has been searching for a No. 2 starter all season.

The Ponies appear to have found their man.

Junior Bryce Klitzke fired a complete-game four-hitter Monday, leading Monticello to an 8-2 victory against Argyle in Six Rivers East Conference play.

The Orioles didn't score until the bottom of seventh, when Alec Treuthardt touched Klitzke for a two-run triple.

"Bryce pitched really well. He's kind of earned his way up to our No. 2 starter here at the end of the year because we really haven't had anyone else show they want the position," Pinnow said.

Monday's start was only Klitzke's third of the season - all in the last week. He had seven strikeouts and walked five, although Pinnow said his control was strong for most of the game.

"I think things are starting to come around for him a little bit," Pinnow said. "What's good for us is he throws strikes, which is something we've struggled with all year."

Aaron Hefty went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, Josh Kolasch was 2-for-4 with a triple and Derek Gilbertson was 2-for-2 to lead the Ponies (5-17, 5-14 Six Rivers East).

Albany 9, Argyle 7

ARGYLE - Patrick Deegan hit a three-run triple in the first inning and Albany erupted for six runs in the sixth in the Six Rivers East victory.

Deegan finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs, Cody Schultz was 2-for-4 with a double and Ethan Pfeuti had a two-run double for Albany.

Schultz got the victory in relief, allowing one unearned run on three hits and two walks while striking out three over two innings. Mitchell Trow started for Albany and allowed just two hits and two unearned runs over five innings. He had four walks and five strikeouts.

Alec Treuthardt started and went 5 1/3 innings for Argyle. He allowed eight runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out nine.

Pecatonica 16, Black Hawk 1

BLANCHARDVILLE - Drew Schliem and J.J. Hogan combined for five hits and five RBIs to power the Vikings (10-11, 9-9 Six Rivers East), who have won five of their last six games.

"We're just being a little more consistent," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said. "The pitchers are a little more consistent and now it seems like we're able to work through errors better and not let them hurt us."

Schliem was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs while Hogan was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs. Karson Feller was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

The Vikings' Tyler Hodgson pitched four innings, allowing one run on three hits without walking a batter. He had six strikeouts.
