CASSVILLE - The Monticello boys basketball team battled back from a
10-point deficit in the first quarter to beat Cassville 47-43 Friday night in a Six Rivers Challenge game.
The Comets jumped out to a 14-4 lead, but the Ponies rallied. Monticello (9-6, 5-2 Six Rivers East) received a big
3-pointer late in the third quarter by Jesse Halvorsen with 2 minutes, 5 seconds left to take the lead for good.
Junior Bryce Klitzke scored a team-high 11 points to lead the Ponies. Monticello's Lukas Kolasch scored 10 points and Derek Gilbertson added seven points.
Brodhead 59, Jefferson 52
JEFFERSON - Brodhead senior Jesse DeLorme sparked the Cardinals as they rallied from a 12-point deficit to knock off Jefferson.
Jefferson outscored the Cardinals 25-10 in the third quarter to build the double digit lead.
Brodhead (9-5, 7-3 Rock Valley) answered by outscoring Jefferson 24-6 in the fourth quarter. DeLorme scored 10 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Cardinals.
"We played terrible defense in the third quarter," Brodhead coach Brian Kammerer said. "In the fourth quarter, the kids stepped it up on defense."
The Cardinals shot 17 of 27 from the free throw line.
Brodhead senior Jacob Johnson scored 14 points, senior Tate Harnack had 12 points and senior Trenton Jordan chipped in 10.
"Free throws came up big in the fourth quarter," Kammerer said.
Juda 57, Highland 38
HIGHLAND - The Panthers dominated the second half and cruised to a Six Rivers Challenge win.
Juda (9-4, 3-3 Six Rivers East) outscored the Cardinals 34-17 in the second half.
Juda senior Brandon Bauman scored 16 points and senior Joey Jordan had 15 points. Cole Bauman added eight and Matt Trotter and Cody Suiter each chipped in seven points.
River Ridge 57,
Pecatonica 47
RIVER RIDGE - The Vikings made 10 3-pointers, but it wasn't enough to escape with a win.
River Ridge outscored the Vikings 18-3 in the second quarter to build an eight-point halftime lead. Pecatonica trailed 42-40 to start the fourth quarter, but the Vikings were outscored 16-8 in the final period.
Pecatonica senior Karson Feller scored 22 points and made four 3-pointers. Pecatonica's Tanner Kleppe scored all 15 of his points on five 3-pointers.
Shullsburg 58,
Black Hawk 37
SHULLSBURG - Black Hawk couldn't overcome a cold second quarter and lost a crossover game to the Miners.
Shullsburg outscored the Warriors 18-3 in the second quarter and rolled from there.
Black Hawk junior guard Merik Meythaler scored a team-high 10 points and junior Coltin Piefer added nine points. Black Hawk drops to 7-8 overall and 4-3 in the Six Rivers East.
Benton 55, Albany 31
BENTON - Albany junior Tyler VanDusen scored a team-high 16 points, but the Comets couldn't recover from a sluggish first quarter.
Benton outscored Albany 22-2 in the first quarter. Senior Gavin Ruef added eight points for Albany (6-8, 3-4 Six Rivers East).

BELMONT - Matt Ritchie scored 14 points and Jared Johnson added 10, but the Orioles lost their sixth straight game.
The Braves jumped out to a 19-12 lead and led by 13 points at halftime. With the loss, Argyle drops to 3-12 overall and 0-7 in the Six Rivers East.
