MONROE - Junior Kade King received first-team Badger South All-Conference honors recently.
The 6-foot, 6-inch Monroe big man averaged 15.1 points per game this season and led the Cheesemakers to a 14-10 mark and a fourth-place finish in the conference with an 8-6 record. Monroe made a run to a regional semifinal and lost a nail-biter to Stoughton 47-45 in the final seconds.
Monroe senior Brayden Zettle was named second-team all-conference, averaging 13.9 ppg, and was one of the team's top 3-point shooters this season. Zettle drilled seven 3s and scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Cheesemakers to a 64-49 win over Oregon in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal.
The signature game for Monroe this year was knocking off Stoughton 69-68 on a last-second shot by senior Hunter Ward on Feb. 9.
Monona Grove senior Jake Schroeckenthaler (19.7 ppg) was named the conference's player of the year and was one of just two players to garner unanimous first-team all-conference honors. The other was Stoughton senior Brady Schipper. Monona Grove, the Badger South Conference champion over Stoughton by one game in the standings, had five players receive some form of all-conference honors. Monona Grove junior Caden Nelson was the team's other first-team all-conference selection.
