MONROE - Kyle Kasten was named the new Monroe boys soccer coach Wednesday.
Monroe High School Activities Director Jeff Newcomer made the announcement in a news release. Kasten has seven years of coaching experience and is entering his second year as the Monroe girls soccer head coach. Before that, he was an assistant coach with Sugar River and Verona.
"I knew I wanted to be in education when I was a freshman," Kasten said of becoming a teacher. "Any time I get the opportunity to impact kids in the classroom or on the pitch it's something I will jump at. My passion for the game comes from the teamwork and camaraderie it helps build. I just want to do as much as I can to help the community of Monroe in any way I can. As a coach it's another avenue to help kids. I just want to share the game with them and develop positive young people."
Newcomer likes the knowledge and passion Kasten brings to the table.
"Coach Kasten has done a wonderful job in just one year with the girls soccer program; it was an easy decision to bring him on board as the Cheesemaker boys coach," Newcomer said. "Coach Kasten will bring to the program a new vision and set of expectations that will bring out the best in our student-athletes. The atmosphere coach creates with his passion for the game and his leadership is exactly what our student-athletes need and expect."
The Monroe girls soccer team held an exhibition game with Evansville Thursday and escaped with a 2-1 win. The Cheesemakers open the season at 7 p.m. April 2 at Janesville Parker. The first home game for Monroe is at 5 p.m. April 9 against Oregon at Honey Creek Park.
