Juda sweeps Black Hawk behind homers

JUDA - Junior Amber Ramos hit a pair of home runs and drove in six runs to lead the Panthers to a 17-2 five-inning win over the Warriors in Game 1 of a Six Rivers East Conference doubleheader Thursday. Ramos went 3 for 3 at the plate, and, in the pitching circle, struck out 11 batters.

Senior Alycia Grenzow went 3 for 4 with a double and sophomore Jessica Rackow was 2 for 3 with a triple.

The Panthers collected 17 hits off Black Hawk starter Kayla Melland. Freshman Jen Wellnitz got two of the Warriors five hits in the game.

In the second game, Juda won 11-1 in six innings.

Grenzow went 3 for 4 with a home run and Courtney Moisan went 3 for 3 with a double as the Panthers pounded out 15 hits. Ramos allowed just three hits and struck nine in four innings of work.

Black Hawk got its only run in the first inning and was held to four hits in the game with just one extra-base hit, a double by senior Lacey Sigafus.

"We've got some pretty good hitters and it showed," Juda head coach Bill Davis said.

Juda (9-2, 7-0 Six Rivers East) will host Kenosha Christian Life in a non-conference game Saturday. Black Hawk (1-6, 0-4 Six Rivers East) will travel to Argyle Monday.

BLANCHARDVILLE - Freshman Jessica Treuthardt shut down the Pecatonica Vikings on three hits to lead the Argyle Orioles to a 7-1 win in Game 1 of a Six Rivers East doubleheader Thursday.

Junior Danielle Treuthardt went 2 for 3 while Kayla Ostby and Kim Pink each hit a double to pace the Orioles. Senior Ellie Gifford got all three hits for the Vikings with a single, double, and a triple.

Argyle won the second game, 12-2 in six innings as the Orioles jumped out to a 6-0 lead in first two innings. Jessica Truethardt scattered five hits while sophomore Rachel Tollackson, senior Jodi Fischer and junior Danielle Treuthardt each went 2 for 3 to lead an 11-hit attack for the Orioles.

Argyle (5-4, 3-3 Six Rivers East) will host Black Hawk Monday while Pecatonica (2-8, 0-5) welcomes Monticello the same day.

Cuba City 24, Darlington 0

DARLINGTON- Cuba City's Megan Hasken threw a perfect game in a dominating win over the Darlington Redbirds Thursday in SWAL conference play.

The Cubans scored eight runs in the second inning, three runs in the third inning and 13 runs in the fourth inning to account for all of their scoring. The Redbirds, meanwhile, were unable to get a baserunner against Hasken.

Darlington (0-13, 0-9) will travel to Riverdale Monday.
