JUDA - Juda senior Joey Jordan scored a game-high 20 points to help the Panthers roll to a 57-36 win over Argyle in a WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal Tuesday night.

Juda (15-8) jumped out to an 18-8 first quarter lead and led 32-16 at halftime. With the win, Juda advances to the regional semifinal where they will play at Monticello Friday night.

"I think the score is a little misleading," Juda coach Kyle Krueger said. "Argyle played a good game and really physical. Ultimately, we made some free throws and we made some pretty tough shots."

Juda junior Brandon Bauman scored 13 points and sophomore Cole Bauman added 10.

Argyle senior Nate Thomas scored 14 points to lead the Orioles and freshman Christopher Severson added 11.

Juda now is preparing for a third game against Monticello.

"I think any time you get to play another game in the tournament you are excited," Krueger said. "We will have the opportunity to play them a third time and we will see what happens."

Division 4

Darlington 56,

Iowa-Grant 34

DARLINGTON - Senior Alex Erickson scored 17 points and the No. 7 ranked Darlington Redbirds held Iowa-Grant to just three points in the third quarter, to roll past the Panthers, 56-34 in a Division 4 regional quarterfinal Tuesday.

Iowa-Grant (2-21), the No. 7 seed, got to within 14-11 in the first quarter, but the No. 2 seeded Redbirds finished the quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 21-13 lead.

The Redbirds extended the lead to 35-25 at halftime, then put on a defensive clinic, allowing only a three-point basket by Iowa-Grant's Garrett Nagle in the final minute of the third quarter while opening up a 51-28 lead.

"The third quarter is where we came out and played the defense we should be playing," Darlington coach Mike Hopkins said.

Junior Brandon Hardyman scored 10 points and junior Mitchell Whalen came off the bench to add nine points to lead the Redbirds.

Hardyman earned the start and played a big role for the Redbirds.

"I'm not surprised he scored 10," Hopkins said. "We have seven or eight players who could start. He has stated six or seven games this year."

Darlington (21-2) will host Mineral Point in the regional semifinal Friday.

Division 5

Monticello 47, Albany 36

MONTICELLO - The Monticello Ponies raced to a 20-4 first quarter lead, then withstood a comeback attempt by the Albany Comets in a 47-36 regional quarterfinal win Tuesday.

The No. 7 seeded Comets cut a double-digit deficit to 30-23 entering the fourth quarter, but the Ponies pulled away with a 17-13 edge over the final eight minutes to secure the win.

Monticello, the No. 2 seed, got 18 points from senior Tyler Ritschard, while Albany (4-18) was led by freshman Isaiah Shell with 11 points.

Monticello (17-5) will host Juda in the regional semifinal Friday.
