JUDA - The Panthers came out on the losing end of a 30-43 game against the Eagles Friday, but Juda coach Andy Werner said his inexperienced team will be able to use the game as a lesson for the future.

Barneveld is one of the best teams in the state, Werner said. His team worked hard to stay competitive throughout the game, he added.

"We battled with them for the entire game," Werner said. "We were able to go toe-to-toe with them.

Juda was down 30-36 with 1:20 to play in the game but Barneveld was able to make free throws down the stretch to pull away.

Werner said he was happy with his team's defensive effort.

"We held them to one field goal in the fourth quarter," he said.

Barneveld led 11-9 after the first quarter but jumped out to a 28-15 lead by halftime. The Panthers outscored the Eagles 12-6 in the third and trailed by seven going into the fourth quarter.

Beau Benner led the Panthers in scoring with 16 points while Tyler Pierce and Bryan Bauman each added six points.

Juda committed 19 fouls while Barneveld committed 11.

Juda (0-3) travels to Belmont Monday.

NEW GLARUS - The Glarner Knights pounded Lodi right out of the gates, rolling to a 66-43 win Friday night.

"We got out of the gate hot and took a quick 14-2 lead," New Glarus head coach Travis Sysko said. "We did what we liked to do, we pushed the ball."

The Knights led 31-18 at halftime and 48-29 after three quarters.

Logan Lockard and Jake Bast each scored 11 points for New Glarus. Ryan Bright scored 10, and ten Knights in all reached the scoreboard.

"We're getting some good contributions from about 8-9 guys a night," Sysko said.

BELLEVILLE 52,

COLUMBUS 38

BELLEVILLE - The Wildcats' Colton Crye and Matt Stenseth each scored 11 points while everyone else on the team contributed as Belleville easily defeated Columbus 52-38.

Jeremy McDermott added eight points in the win.

"It was a tight game early but we were able to pressure them in the first quarter," Belleville coach Doug Stampfli said.

The Wildcats jumped out to an 11-3 lead behind solid defense and opportunities at the other end of the floor.

Belleville led 27-16 at the half and then both teams settled down into a defensive match. Each team scored nine points in the third quarter and Belleville outscored Columbus 16-13 in the third. The Wildcats' early lead in the game, however, proved to be the difference. Columbus simply couldn't make up the ground it lost in the fist half.

"Their kids played hard," Stampfli said of Columbus. "It was a good game. Nothing exciting but we'll take the win."

Beau Berry led Columbus players with 11 points.

Belleville was 8-for-16 from the free-throw line while Columbus was 7-for-15 from the line.
