POYNETTE - The Juda-Albany softball team posted two wins in the Poynette Jamboree on Friday.
The Panthers hung on to knock off Mineral Point 11-9 in the first game and then breezed by Burlington Catholic Central 9-2.
"The kids battled hard," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said. "We were coming off a 10 inning game last night (a 3-2 loss to Belmont). I just wanted to see how the girls would respond. I thought the girls responded really well. I was very happy with the way they played."
With the wins, Juda-Albany improves to 13-2.
In the first game, the Panthers scored six runs in the third inning to take an 8-3 lead over Mineral Point. The Pointers answered with six runs in the bottom of the third to take a 9-8 lead. The Panthers put the game away with a two-run seventh.
Senior Sara Jordan stared on the mound and pitched three innings. She gave up six earned runs, struck out three and walked two. Junior Maddie Roth pitched two shutout innings in relief and gave up just two hits. Junior Nicki Becker pitched two no-hit shutout innings in relief to get the win. She struck out three and walked none.
Becker went 2-for-2 with three RBI and Jordan was 2-for-3.
In the second game against Catholic Central, Becker went 2-for-3 and had three RBI to propel the Panthers to the victory.
Juda-Albany set the tone early on scoring five runs in the first inning. Senior Sayde McDermott went 2-for-4 and also had three RBI.
Becker pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up two earned runs on six hits. Becker struck out six and walked one.
