HIGHLAND - Juda-Albany freshman Nicki Becker tossed a four-hit shutout to lead the Panthers to a 4-0 win over Highland Friday.

Becker struck out 11 and walked three. Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis liked Becker's performance since she was able to get strikeouts when she needed with runners in scoring position.

"That's big stepping up when you need to," Davis said of Becker getting strikeouts. "It was a pitcher's duel for both of us. Nicki did a great job and had command of her pitches."

Juda-Albany sophomore Alexis Goecks went 2-for-4. With the win, Juda-Albany (14-1, 11-0 Six Rivers East), ranked No. 4 in the Division 4 Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association state poll, remains in the driver's seat for a conference title.

The Panthers broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning. Juda-Albany senior Katlyn Steinmann led off the fifth with a double. Juda-Albany freshman Hailey Kammerer moved her into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Goecks came through with an RBI single. Goecks stole second and junior Jessica Crull singled. Sophomore teammate Sara Jordan walked and junior Danielle Dieckoff crushed a two-run triple to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead.

Juda-Albany will host a tournament today that includes Monticello, Brodhead, Argyle and the Panthers.
